Not the biggest surprise in the world but i was still a little stunned when they was unveiled today. Australian mag PC Powerplay have been speaking about its inclusion in the latest game in the Mass Effect franchise. Here is the statement from the mag:

That's right - Mass Effect 3 is getting multiplayer! We travel to BioWare's office in Edmonton for hands-on time with the series' first foray into online gameplay, and chat with Mass Effect Series Producer and Mass Effect 3 Project Director Casey Hudson about the decision to go multiplayer in the epic battle for the galaxy.

The first hints of multiplayer making its way into the Mass Effect universe was from a jobs advertisement for Multiplayer programmer (Mass Effect Franchise)'. However Bioware denied they had anything to reveal regarding its appearance but it seems that it is indeed true. Personally i shall probably never touch the multiplayer just like i didnt touch it in The Chronicles of Riddick, The Darkness, Assassins Creed and Bioshock 2 as i didnt think they needed multiplayer.

They just keep ruining the franchise.

Mass Effect II was bad in comparison to the original, but if they tack on a last minute Multiplayer all hope is lost for this one.

*sigh*

While I believe that everyone is entitled to his or hers own opinion, I would like to take this oppurtunity to tell you that yours is wrong.

Mass Effect 2 was horrible. Established canon had to bend over and take it up the butt in favour of making it more of a Gears of War wannabe.

I mean, hello? Ammo? What the hell man!

You always say that canon was hit, but that makes no sense. Yes, ME2 used a psuedo ammo system. But that was a gameplay mechanic, nothing more. From a storytelling stand point, guns still don't use ammo.

It's a game in an extremely competitive market. They have to change the games as to keep up with their competition.

Also, I prefer ME2 over ME.

Real BioWare (as in pre-Electronic Arts) games were competitive enough through storytelling alone. Mass Effect 1 sure was without having to be just another shooter. I had hoped for this series to be a rare exception, but nooooo. They just had to take a dump all over it for the sequel.

I liked ME2 and could see why they added ammo to the weapons to balance certain things. I enjoyed the story though the loyalty missions and mining was tedious. I thought it improved on the original in a lot of areas but didnt want it to steer more towards shooter fans which it did. I think ME3 was delayed to polish the multiplayer and they havent said what the modes are yet i suppose.

If they insist with adding MP, I hope it is co-op and I can live out my dream of playing a Krogan.

Coolest sci-fi species since the Klingons. <3

I agree with Tsuyu, Mass Effect 2 was absolute **** in comparison to Mass Effect 1.

Still not sure how I feel about this, I doubt I'll make any use of it come release though.

As for the ME1 vs ME2 argument, I have to agree with Tsuyu & Drakan. While I did enjoy ME2, it was clear they narrowed a lot of things down in favor for a more mainstream approach, and copying the gameplay mechanics of Gears of War was something I didn't like (as they weren't very polished mechanics at that). But, Bioware needed the money and the increased budget (with some obvious strings attached) did help keep their business alive and even stronger.

I'm not excited for ME3, but I'm definitely still getting it. Just wish it didn't appear to be another ME2, with some tweaks here and there and new weapons/armors/characters.

4 Player Co-op Multiplayer trailer has been released...

Posting from phone, sorry for poor layout.

I don't think you guys realize the sheer volume of work that a project like this creates. There have been more and more choices between the two previous games. So in Mass Effect 3 they have to find a place for the casts of the 1 and 2, reflect all of the choices you made, finish off Shepard's story, etc. All of this in two years.

I, for one, am excited beyond all belief. :O

Gameplay>Choices

Also, does it really matter how much effort they put into it? You can put a lot of effort into building a pyramid made of ****, but at the end of the day it's still just a pyramid made of ****.

I love the amount of choice in the Mass Effect series and its the think that appealed to me the most. Must have been a nightmare to think of all the variables from each game to another and make sure every possibility is branched out in sequels. Also really looking forward to seeing how the game concludes and which way the story will pan out and my choices effecting that.

With that said however im just hoping they dont choose to strip more of the RPG aspects out in favour of a more action/shooter approach. RPG's and shooters are my favourite genres but i dont want my RPG's to turn into mere shooters. I dont mind the long conversations and i prefer the situations in games to have multiple ways to get around them rather than the cut and dry go here and kill everyone route (though i like that to be a choice too). Just want there to be a good balance of action and deep RPG experience.

It will probably be a fun way to pass the time once everything else in the game is done.

You really prefer the first ME to the second? Wow.
