People hate their kids

Ever notice how wherever you are, there's always some baby screaming his head off, and the mom/dad isn't doing anything about it?

That leads me to believe that people in 2009 hate their kids.

Be it anywhere. Like the park, street, neighboring car, apartment next to yours, fancy restaurant, airplane, train, or movies.

If you don't believe me, go to any of those places, and their is a chance I will be correct.

Re: People hate their kids

I think they are just so used to the baby crying, that they just ignor it. Usually they are trying to teach the baby not to cry (by showing the baby that crying will get it nothing). I would be nice if they would just shut the damn thing up though.

I know right? On my flight to Hawai'i, there was a kid who cried the whole flight, but the parents didn't do anything! Gave me a headache after 10 mins

That's the live.

It always will be like that and there will be always people walking who
don't care about their children.

my country is crappy, we have like 4 million people.

And yet, you can see people not caring about children.
I saw few times how children which parents don't care about them behave.
It's terrible

Re: People hate their kids

John is right, it's a technique for bringing up your kids. If you notice, the kids that grow up getting everything they want tend to be either obese, have a sour personality or are a mixture of the two.

It's an incentive-only form of behavior modification where good behavior is rewarded and bad behavior is ignored, and it's a practice that I firmly believe works. I had a mother thank me for suggesting it. What's odd about that is I know nothing of parenting. Succumbing to the child's cries tells the child that he/she only needs to cry for x number of minutes before being spoiled with whatever the parent feels will stop the crying. When there's no reward, there's less incidents of crying. That's just what I pick up from books anyway, I've not had any personal experience with this.If only a device could be made to make such a thing happen, oh wait.

That's completely retarted theory. Babies are completely dependent on their parents and have no way of communicating their needs. Trying to comfort the baby at every turn does not have a lasting effect on how the child grows up. The real learning starts when they get to the toddler stage.

Re: People hate their kids

Children do everything they see. If the kid is a jerk its because the parent is.
if a persons child needs attending to I tell them.

I'm not promoting child neglect. By all means make sure the kid isn't in a dirty diaper or hungry or injured, but beyond that, I would say to let the kid cry. This I will have to strongly disagree with. While it won't have a lasting effect that can be noticed when the child is say, twenty, it can be noticed when the child is a toddler and the behavior at that age will reflect how the behavior was responded to at earlier ages, just as beating a child while he is fourteen can have a noticeable effect when the child is eighteen. Comforting the child at any given moment will teach the child that he/she can interrupt your life at any given moment by crying, and unless there's reason along the lines of necessity such as hunger, dirty diaper, or a cat that just scratched the kid to hell and back, I believe it would spoil a child, teaching him/her that making some noise will result in receiving some sort of reward.

As said before, I'm no parent and have no real parenting knowledge, all I know is from what I've read in articles and studies, some B.F. Skinner books and the like. This is just the way I see it, I have no problems with people having their own views.

I'm not saying that the theory is not applicable, just that it's not applicable to babies. Once they can walk and talk, they need to start learning that they are not the centre of the universe. Babies do not know any better, and nor can they learn that, so whats the point.

Re: People hate their kids

I just read this somewhere ( on a magnet )

Mothers hold their children for a day and their hearts forever..

Why all people can't be like that !

This is false, by the time they start talking (this is a vague period, we`re talking around year 3 I guess), the damage is already done and after that it is very hard to teach the kid that he/she is not the center of the universe. This is indeed true.
I don`t believe, however, that it`s permanent as teen years can have a deep impact on a person`s behavior and personality.

Re: People hate their kids

Wooow... Deep, deep... I HATE children, so damn annoying and think they are the most badass thing ever created... But as much as I hate "the crying, the bleeding its tearing me apart!" I agree with the John theory... It worked on me, I was ignored unless it was important, AND I listened to Mozart as a baby (No idea if that TRULY effects a childs mental capasity or personality) and I am a pretty literate and kind gentlemen; if a little morbid and quite perverted.

Re: People hate their kids

Ignoring your own children cry or scream in public places is just wrong. It's a selfish act. These parents should be ashamed of themselves.

That doesn't make any sense. It's not as though a kid learns all his behavour when he's younger than three. Kids will develope their behaviour well into their teens, which is plenty of time to teach them new business.

Nobody says you should spoil them.
And I don't quite follow the rest of your message.

It's not about spoiling him when they're that young. It's bordering on neglect. Once they can talk, you can tell them why they're being ignored and not spoil them all you want.

You cannot spoil a baby.

Exactly.
Neglect. That's the word. Thanks.

Re: People hate their kids

Spoiling kids is A-OK if you don't get them to stop crying, because the kid will end up in jail because they think they are at the center of the universe.
