PS3 or Fable III?

I figure this is related to Fable III so it deserves a spot here. If not, feel free to move it. Anyways, I'm poor and that's become painfully obvious as of late. Now, I was planning on getting rid of my PSP this weekend along with the two games I have for it and a couple of others in order to pre-order a Limited Edition copy of Fable III.

Then I got to thinking "I don't play my Wii all that much either and I do have a couple of GameStop cards that might have some credit left on them... maybe I should get a PS3 instead?".

I realize how crazy I might seem to some of you, not only for thinking about getting rid of my Wii but also because I'm considering not getting the Limited Edition version of Fable III or possibly even the regular copy.

However, you have to look at it from a poor gamer's point of view. I can get a PS3, something I've been dying to get since the day they came out or I could get a single game that I want just as bad. The choice that would provide me with the most bang for my buck is the PS3.

Unfortunately, that means I'll be missing out on all the Limited Edition extras as well as the Villager Maker. I don't care much about making my own villager but they did say that custom villager comes with a unique quest not obtainable in any other way.

Of course, it doesn't help that I'm both obsessive-compulsive AND indecisive. Anyways, your opinions and any help would be extremely appreciated albeit possibly pointless.

Re: PS3 or Fable III?

I would never bother with a PS3. Xbox-exclusive games (like the Fable series) are always greater in number and quality than PlayStation-exclusive games.

Sony doesn't charge for online play and so far, there have been quite a few PS3 exclusives that are extremely entertaining and I haven't even played them yet.

Demon's Souls, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot, etc.

You wouldn't have any games for the PS3. If you haven't read The Gift of the Magi, you should.

Personally I don't see the point in having both a 360 and a PS3. Do you have the option of selling your 360 to buy the PS3? That way you could get Fable 3 for PC, and still have the PS3.

I have both!

as said there are exclusives for both and I'm a gamer, it's my hobby! (I also have a stupidly high spec computer just for the sims!)

My recomendation? find out what they'll give you for that little lot, if it's worth it get the ps3 and preorder the normal fable III!

I'm a gamer, it's as simple as that. I'd actually like to keep all three systems and my PSP but when you're poor, you make do with what you got. My PC is terrible, there's no way I'd be able to run Fable III on it and even then... having to wait longer with the possibility of no LE just doesn't seem very promising.

Haha, GameStop ain't that generous. To be honest, I'll probably have barely enough to pre-order the Limited Edition of Fable III. I've just been dying to get a PS3 so I deluded myself a bit into thinking it might be possible.

Re: PS3 or Fable III?

Actually, I just happen to have a PS3 kind of just by chance in addition to a 360. I actually have to come up with a bit of money to grab Fable 3 and DC Universe for PS3 6 days after that!

For me having a PS3 and a 360 is kind of nice.

Sell Wii, it's crap.
Aquire PS3, Even if I love Fable with all my heart, a single game < a whole console/DVD/Blueray is worth more.

With that said, if I was you though, I'd sell all that crap and get the controller, the LCE, the preorder and the book. But only cause I don't like the PS3

Re: PS3 or Fable III?

Just use the trade ins to get Fable III LE and the related extras (controller, etc.) if you want them. Trust me, I've been down this road several times myself with various games/consoles. You're all set to get one thing, then you end up getting more trade in value than you were expecting (or you realize you could also trade in something else to get more credit), and you make the impulsive decision to get something totally different than you originally planned. What's happened to me every time is I end up regretting not going with what I originally wanted, trading the new stuff back in to get it, and losing a bunch of money in the process.:'(

Btw, I know you said you've wanted a PS3 since they came out, so it's not a totally implulsive decision. I get that. But it's still implulsive in the sense that it sounds like you weren't having trouble diciding until it occurred to you you could trade in your Wii also.

Re: PS3 or Fable III?

First off - I am a die hard x-box 360 fan

The PS3 has a lot of games that are really fun, like MGS4 (which includes MGO - a hard but addictive online version of MGS4), Little Big Planet, InFamous, Uncharted 2 and some other less attractive games.

I have a 360, ps3, wii, and ps2 (bought the ps2 only cuz I wanted Shadow of the Colossus :p)

If only MGS4 would come to the 360 I would have no broblem selling it :)

I was looking forward to crashing your world, Grim, but I'll settle with kicking your ass in a CQC fight on MGO (oh yeah, I'm awesome at that)

I consider myself a neutral gamer because I enjoy all three consoles equally. I already know of numerous PS3 titles that I'd love to get (and I think I listed them already). I'm definitely thinking of getting rid of the Wii regardless just because I don't play it all that much. I mean, I could even get rid of my PS2 (if GameStop still accepts them) but I need to find a list or something of PS2 compatible games for the PS3 and just sell whichever games I can't play on the PS3.

I admit, this is a bit impulsive (but my name is GrimWhim, haha) but... I don't know. I don't care about the controller or the book even though they would both be very nice to have but I do care a lot about the Limited Edition because it adds in a new region, a new quest, etc. and I'd hate to miss out on that. Even if I did get that PS3 I most likely would not be able to afford any games for it... I don't know. It's a tough call to make. I'm hoping by some miracle I can actually afford the PS3 AND the LE copy of Fable III but that would be $330. I mean, I could probably get my grandparents to help pay for the pre-order of Fable III LE but we are poor so... I don't know.

The PS3 has a lot of amazing games and it saddens me that I'd have to sell off most of what I have just to get the PS3 without any games but it would be worth it when I can finally start getting some. And you're right, a console/DVD/Blueray player provides me with more than a simple game... even though this Fable looks to be the most epic of them all (until possibly IV and V).

I'd actually like to get the controller just because I love the golden design... but then I'd never take it out of its case, haha.

Re: PS3 or Fable III?

I'd go with Fable, Grim. As much as you want a PS3, you could have a full content copy of Fable III. Put it this way;
  • A PS3 with no games on it. The ability to play your DVD's.
  • A copy of Fable III with all possible content available to you.
(All Quests, Regions, Weapons. The ability to add your very own custom Villager to your game.)

You talk about the most bang for your buck. Well, I think it's pretty clear which is the bigger bang mate. You will HEAVILY regret not getting Fable if you choose the PS3. You'll get your regular copy, while others are rolling in the extra content. Good luck making the right choice though fella.

You'll regret it the minute everyone starts playing in October and you've got a PS3 with no games and nothing to add when everyone here starts talking about how cool/awesome/amazing/fun/difficult Fable III is to play.

You're right GI. That's why I plan on trying to get both but if I can't, I'll go with the Limited Edition of Fable III and try to get the PS3 later on. Still, I would be getting much more out of the PS3 than Fable III in the long run but... yeah, I guess it's pretty obvious which one I have to choose.

That's true, I probably will. However, considering the fact that I'm selling my PS2, my PS2 controllers, possibly some PS2 games, my GameCube games, my Nintendo Wii, my Wii games, my Wii controllers, my PSP, my PSP games and a couple of Xbox 360 games... I might have just enough to get both a used PS3 AND the Limited Edition of Fable III. I have two GameStop cards and they both might have something on them so that would help too. But yes... if I can only afford one or the other, I'll stick with the Limited Edition of Fable III.

Gears of War was highly overrated and Alan Wake sucked, big time. The original Dead Rising was also overrated and a complete bore. Mind you, that's just my opinion but the 360 has mostly shooters and most of them aren't that fun. Halo 3 was an abomination and a sin against the series. Halo 2 was actually pretty good where as the original is, was and will forever be the best. Halo Reach does look interesting though...

Still, the PS3 has many amazing games for it AND free online play. That instantly makes it better than the 360 in my book.

---

Thanks to everyone who helped out. I really appreciate it. By the way, if someone could find me a list of PS2 games that are compatible with the PS3, I'd greatly appreciate that too.
