Redesigned 360 Controller On The Way

Director of Programming for Microsoft gaming, Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb, has shown off the new Xbox 360 controller. They have made a redesigned one after complaints by fighting game fans about the 360 controllers lacklustre D-Pad. The new one will feature a new and improved d-pad which can be manipulated and raised for better control by 'twisting' it and white with grey buttons.

The controller will be available on November 9 2010 in the US - and some time in February 2011 in Europe.

Ironic I used to live in Seattle.

Sounds pretty bamf though. I would get it. If it wasnt over the cost of a game and didn't have 4 working controllers already.

Meh, I never really thought anything was wrong with the D-pad. The new one might be a little better, but is that really worth $65? I don't think so. Plus, I like the colored A B X Y buttons.

The price isnt unreasonable, if you dont mind the current price of wireless controlers. 45 dollar wireless controller plus a 20 dollar rechargable battery pack. I think wireless controlers are overpriced as it is but in spite of my hatred of microsoft and their money grubbing ways, I dont find this to be unreasonable for what you get.

It's not that bad in general, but it's pretty awful for fighting games such as Soul Calibur, Tekken, Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter etc. Where it's easy to (for example) accidentally go Diagonal Up on the d-pad, instead of just Up.

Don't know what the point was for changing the color of the Alphabet buttons, especially since some games make use of the colors for gameplay elements (like Rockstar's Table Tennis), unless these buttons light up in color when the controller is on.

$65 for the upgrade is a bit steep though, but I do like that new D-Pad.

$64.99? Keep dreaming, asshole. >_>

Re: Redesigned 360 Controller On The Way

Am I the only one who saw no difference after he "twisted" it?

Ok I watched it again and I see the difference. Meh.

Re: Redesigned 360 Controller On The Way

As Gikoku mentioned, for fighting games the 360 controller is a pain in the ass. I much preferred the "+" d-pad on the Playstation. Felt better, overall.

Re: Redesigned 360 Controller On The Way

i will miss having the colored buttons. it may sound stupid, but hear me out. whenever i'm entertaining a friend who isn't used to Xbox and something as simple as "how do you jump" is asked, you can either say "A button" or "Green button". saying A button tells them to check the letters on all four buttons, or even the triggers. on the other hand, you could say green button, and they would look down at the controller and push the (YOU GUESSED IT!) green one. it really did serve a purpose having them that way, but now they'll all have to learn as if they were completely color blind.

seriously, this.
you get a new controller model and never having to worry about feeding it batteries. both packaged and priced as less than they would be if they were sold separate.

honestly, it's not like they are forcing you to buy the newer model.
