Six Days in Fallujah

"Honestly, I think people are afraid of it," Peter Tamte says. "Obviously the Iraq War is a controversial topic." Tamte is the president of Atomic Games, a game studio that is readying a bold new military shooter called Six Days in Fallujah. The game is set in the bloodiest combat of the Iraq War, the battle of Fallujah, and it won't pull any punches concerning its mature subject matter. "if this were a movie, a TV show, or a book, people wouldn't question portray applying the war in Iraq," Tamte continues. "So why shouldn't that apply in video games?" - GamePro May 2009, issue 248, page 60

Like it said, Six Days in Fallujah is about the Second Battle of Fallujah, or Operation Phantom Fury.

Oh yeah, and it's for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah

Sounds kinda boring and FYI operation Iraq wasn't/isn't a war

Re: Six Days in Fallujah

There is no "Operation Iraq", unless you're referring to "Operation Iraqi Freedom"

Re: Six Days in Fallujah

You can say anything you want as long as it doesn't involve the word war, there is no war in Iraq

Stupid Bush. Wasting our troops for WMDs that don't exist.

No one defies the Tom Clancy!

Re: Six Days in Fallujah

This actually looks pretty good. But I heard that a lot soldiers who fought in Fallujah are against the game and family members of soldiers who died, or even family members of soldiers who didn't die.

Well in GamePro, it says that Tamte interviewed a lot of soldiers who survived.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah

I dont see how making a game based around this is any different from making a game of any other conflict that has happened. Only difference is that this conflict is still ongoing. Read some more news on this earlier:

Fallujah developer downsizes

Atomic Games confirms staff cuts, pledges to continue work on Iraq War shooter with smaller team, assistance from Destineer.

Due to a mixture of fears about the edgy subject matter of Six Days in Fallujah, as well as low video game sales this summer, we have been unable to secure full-scale funding from a major publisher for Six Days in Fallujah," the studio said in a statement. "This has caused us to reduce the size of our studio today."

Development on the game will continue, albeit with a smaller team. Funding for the game will be provided by Atomic Games sister company Destineer.

"We wish to assure the dozens of Marine veterans who have collectively invested hundreds of hours in this project that, while we have been badly wounded, we will fight on," the studio's statement said. "The stories of your brothers' courage and sacrifice in Fallujah must be shared with the world."

Before the layoffs, Atomic had a team of 75 people working to complete the game. The developer gave no indication as to how many are still with the team, but it did encourage other studios to use the contact information on its Web site to get in touch with "the many talented and loyal staff who are affected."

Doesn't a smaller team = bad game?

Not always, just means less people working on it. It can sometimes mean a better game as when Peter Molyneux ran Bullfrog Studios it had a huge team and then when he founded Lionhead Studios the team has got smaller as the years went on. Smaller team means more communication and closer knit team and can benefit things. Just might make the game take longer to develop.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah

Small teams and unsung game studios often suprise, they work a lot harder and they don't allways play it safe. Zeno Clash is a perfect example

Re: Six Days in Fallujah

IGN just rumoured it does not even have a developing team just a clean up crew it aint going nowhere...
Apparently the news of recent firings from developer Atomic Games over controversial shooter Six Days in Fallujah is much worse than we were lead to believe.

Industrygamers is reporting a source close to the studio says its closure is almost inevitable.

"Out of 75 people, less than a dozen are left and about a third of that isn't even developers," the source said.

"The remaining team is basically a skeleton cleanup crew that will be gone soon too. They are trying to downplay the extent of these layoffs, but the reality is that Atomic is pretty much dead."

Yikes.

No word yet on what this means for Six Days in Fallujah, but this doesn't look good.

Too bad. It sounds like a good game. Hope they can still deliver.
