I believe this person is what people call a "troll." He has only posted twice.

Agree to disagree. Your ranting may be funny, but it is also annoying. Especially when it seems like it is not going to end.

Fair enough.

And Drakan, thanks. What exactly do you do in college?

I could list a decent amount of qualifications we can get from college but most wouldnt mean anything to you. Its normally the stepping stone into University or a higher level of training for a job etc. I mean i took a 2 year advanced computer technology course and finished all the work in 9 months with one of the highest grades. I didnt get a job involving computers in the end though and websites ended up a hobby that we slightly touched on in college at a really basic level.

I see. Sounds kinda like the first two years of college or a community college. Makes sense. Thanks.

Not to sound like a sanctimonious twit, but this is why I find this forum entertaining-- we have such a wild divergence of views. Also, we're way off-topic, but what the hell.

Angel, I have the feeling I've asked this before, but I'll ask again... what exactly are you talking about? You went to college... but not to uni(versity?) Here, you go through thirteen years of elementary, middle, and high school; then either you go to a college (or university, they're basically the same thing) to get a degree or you go get a job. It usually takes about 4-5 years of undergraduate education for engineering, journalism, whatever; then, depending on the job you go on to graduate school to get whatever higher degrees you need, and that usually takes 2-4 years.

And... your grant? What exactly is that? Is that just need-based grants from the government, like the ones we can get from the feds or (in my case) the Maryland State Board of Education; or something else? (Note on those: I hate them. I'm paying for my own college, and I am POOR, but because the FAFSA (the grant application thing) bases it on your parent's income rather than yours, it said I could only get aid for above 8,000 dollars or so... and the University of Maryland charges 7,000 some a year.

Arseface-- socializing. Possibly, but I suck at it. Which kinda kills that aspect.

And Angel, out of curiosity, what are these jobs you speak of?
DD already explained our education system, but basically I did my GCSE's (the exams taken at the end of our high school years and which are required for future employment/education for the most part, especially English and Maths. Other subjects depend on what you want to do afterwards). Then I did two years at college doing my A Levels (the alternative was leaving school and getting a job) and after that I went into full-time employment as I didn't want to go to university and when you leave full time education in this country your parents stop receiving financial aid for your upbringing (it's currently £18.80 per week, whatever that is in dollars) so I had to get a job to help pay my way at home. Due to various circumstances I lost both my job and my home so even if I wanted to go to uni it would have been impossible.

The government gives financial aid to low income families with kids wanting to attend uni - it's chopped and changed a lot over recent years so I have no idea what the current state of play is, but when I was at college you applied for a grant to subsidize your education - then you had to pay it back once you got a job which brought in a certain wage. So essentially you start your adult life already in debt to the tune of several thousand pounds, unless your parents are rich enough to pay for you which mine weren't, just like a lot of families. Sadly just coz you have a degree doesn't mean you'll get a decent job. You could be a doctor and be out of work for months and months - the demand is high but the money doesn't cover it and it's cheaper to get overseas workers in than people who have lived and trained here. I know of people with more than one degree currently waiting tables because there is no work available in their chosen profession.

My jobs are a mixture of paid and unpaid work - I've been unable to find employment ever since my kid was born and when I married Steve and moved up here, well - this town isn't exactly renowned for its job opportunities. So I work from home - I'm a qualified crisis pregnancy counsellor and voluntarily counsel people (not just within that field) via email, IM and in person from time to time. I also work for a charity for the visually impaired/those physically unable to hold books and have about a million job titles, it feels like, but essentially I am the children's librarian, proof reader and data entry manager. It works out fine for me, really, because I hate people, love books and don't have to deal with idiots all day every day like in a normal job.

My ideal job would be owning a bookshop, but that's a whole other kettle of proverbial fish...

Wait, there's a world outside of gaming? When did this happen?

its been around for a while, but is scarwy out there. stay inside!

Re: stop playing............

Staying at home is much better than hanging around outside with friends. That is, if they smoke... you know, junks. They should work on their future as well. Just to make it clear, my top 5 of preferance.

1. Health
2. Study
3. Parents
4. Wealth
5. All other things.
