The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

Fable is a soon-to-be three-set game, spanning across Albion in I, II, and III.

From I, 500 years, to II, 50 years, to III.

What's next?

What kind of Fable would the next one make? A sequel, or even a prequel?

I'd like to see Bowerstone develop into a more... city-like region. New York you now. And yes I will say it, the automobile. Like the first car, you now. An early American period of flappers, the automobile, and the like. That would be awesome. But this would be based on, the late 1800's to early 1900's.

Or even a prequel? Like a game set in the Old Kingdom era. You are one of the first Heroes, and can explore Albion in the Old Kingdom.

Re: The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

This isn't the place for Fable chat, but since a staff member will probably move it, I suppose I'll throw my two cents in.

Lionhead has plans for Fable 4 and 5, though they haven't been confirmed. I think they will still be made, though. However, I don't know how they're going to keep moving forward in time. Weaponry will get more advanced, making melee weapons obsolete, which would be terrible. They're already pushing it with an industrial era in Fable 3. Going any further down the timeline would most likely result in something pretty bad. The only thing left to do for Fable 4 and 5 is make them both into prequels. Perhaps one could be set in the times of the Old Kingdom while the other could be in between TLC and Fable 2, whether it's before, after, or during the fall of the Guild.

Old Kingdom would be weird, the story there is pretty much known. Black saves the world then the world goes nuts when his kids take over and then he disappears never to be heard from again. Sounds like a crappy story for a good guy. Before or during the fall of the guild would be no good, because the guild ultimately falls anyway, unless they mean to, well I don't know what goes on in their heads but I wouldn't do it. After the fall of the guild, attempts to rebuild while heroes are Order 66'd, that might be interesting if it's done right.

And I'll have nothing to say or be surprised about if Fable later features space battles on the moon. Why? Because I wouldn't put it past LionHead.

True, but remember what (I'm sorry I'm bringing Halo in it) Bungie is doing with Halo Reach - we already know that Reach gets destroyed by the Covenant, but there might be alot of room for other stuff. Or not. I also reckon that the majority of people that play Fable 2 haven't read the backstory of the Old Kingdom.

It could be interesting to play in the guild rebellion involving Maze and the Guildmaster and stuff.

That crossed my mind as well. Perhaps a game set in the times of the Old Kingdom could tell a smaller and less important story that we don't know about right now. It wouldn't be as epic of a game as its preceders, but it's just an idea.

I don't foresee and kind of interesting story taking place between TLC and the fall of the Guild, but perhaps a game during the fall of the Guild could provide a satisfactory storyline. We know that the Archon's bloodline makes it all the way to Fable 2, but we don't know how. A game during the fall of the Guild could tell the story of how the Heroes of the Archon's bloodline survived the Guild's destruction.

That's what I'm most afraid of. Seeing Fable set even in an early 1900s-like setting would be terrible. It would make it hard even to play the good Fable games because I'll be so disappointed in Lionhead.

This. But, I think they could make both prequels in the old kingdom leading up to the fall of it, because there's so much to cover.

However, between tlc and 2 seems pretty bad ass also.

Re: The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

They could also tell a story about some other Heroe`s Guild in some other country. I generally like sequels that follow the first game, but as long as they integrate Albion and its history into the storyline/gameplay, I wouldn`t mind.
Think of a East-European Fable... in ancient Chernobyl. Or in 1986: "Fable IV: Shadow of Chernobyl"

^I really doubt they would do that. If we've learned anything about Fable, it's that you will always play as a Hero of the Archon's bloodline.

maybe but unless they drasticlly shorten the amount of time in btw each game they'll run out of time cuz there on the verge of modern day and that would make like half of what makes fable intresting obsolete (eg. swords, quests, etc.)

Re: The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

If they make the storyline epic and maybe make the skill/growth system a bit more complex - not too much, though, it should always have that Fable feel - I can`t see any problem going back into the middle ages. And as said, I would like Fable in a completely different setting than Albion. Maybe middle-eastern, desert like theme. Would be cool as long as the Fable world remains.

Fable II already was an extension of the original, why not try different paths this time.

Re: The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

it woud be awesome if william black had more kids than we were aware of and some of them ventured off to aurora and the hero bloodline was alive and flourishing there possibly setting up 4 a new game

Re: The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

I'd like a game set in the Old Kingdom. Not as William Black... just set in the Old Kingdom. Seriosuly, Balverines twice the size of men, incredible Will powers... who knows, maybe even the Sandgoose!

I've been saying that for a long time. I totally get what you mean. There could still be a story involving the Archon's bloodline before TLC or in between TLC and Fable 2, though.

Damn it would be cool if the Sandgoose was the villain, hero, weapon or whatever of major significance to the story.

Pffft, all it does is sell ale in Oakfield....

Re: The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

Maybe your guy could inadvertantly kill the Sandgoose. Like, a quest to find it and you're with a small kid, and when you find it the kid says "Over there!" and there's a cutscene were your dude sees it, screams "HOLY SH*T!" and shoots it with his pistol.

Re: The Future of Fable (IV, V, VI...)

rather than change time, i think they will change location.

the hero bloodline could have branches in countries that have not even been visited before. also, plenty of places in the world were in a state where melee weaponry was still plausible when it was entirely replaced in the western world.
