It doesn't matter if you kill them. You don't even have to listen to them. Just dig on the right side of the left boat, near the tip. It's just like that pirate ghost thing, if you dig up the treasure before talking to him, he'll just disappear.

They're on the western beach in Oakvale to the right of the dock as you look out to sea. You can't miss them

I know this is an old topic but I didn't think it'd be smart to start a new topic just for this but... how do I dig up the necklace? I have the original Fable for XBox and have been running up and down in between the two boats pressing a rapidly but nothing happens, do I need to buy a shovel? If so, where?

Yes, you need to buy a shovel in Bowerstone south.
Just after you enter, look to the right and there will be a man standing there, talk to him and select "Buy" Then "Items" and finally "Other".

Also buy a fishing rod if you don't have one. :thumbsup:

Once you have the shovel, just stand between the boats and the shovel icon will appear on the bottom of the d-pad, press down and your character will dig up the necklace.

I got realy lucky with this quest I went to oakvale not even doing the quest and started the ghost pirate quest. I thought he was talking about digging right where the necklace was so I went there and dug it up.It was later I found out what it was used for.

All you have to do is go to the oakvale cemetary and eavesdrop on these two traders and they will mention that its buried in between the 2 boats at the beach hope that helped
