First of all, let me just say this: It's the higher ups (The Politicians and the Generals) who make the rules and laws of the Military. So please don't blame us Service members for being the ones who have kept the ban on homosexuals in the Military (At least, the openness of homosexuals in the Military).
I for one have no problems with homosexuals in the Military. I think it's our God given right, as mankind, to defend and serve whatever country we're part of/belong to. If you were Canadian, whatever gender or whatever sexual preference, you would still feel proud to serve Canada, same goes for the UK, the US, or any other country you consider home and love.
I'm glad they lifted this ban. A lot of us Service Members truly don't have a problem with homosexuals. I know that a lot of us joke around about it and I am guilty of this, as well; However, we're not gay bashers or anything. I would not look at a homosexual the same as any other Service member. A comrade in arms, I've got his back, he/she has mine. And on the battlefield, that's what it takes to survive, because I'm telling you now. When you're shot and bleeding, you won't give a **** what sexual preference the person is that's carrying you to safety or bandaging you up.
I'm glad for this, though. YEARS ago when I went through Basic Training, one of my closest buddies is gay. I've always wondered that about him, I had my suspicions, and even with my suspicions, I never treated him any differently. Now that this has been lifted, he announced it on his Facebook, and I'm glad he's happy. My brother in arms.
