What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

When a person says (in gaming terms) "first generation", I think of things like Pong, and the Arcade. (YEA GO 8-BIT GAMES)

Second Gen: Atari 2600, Atari 5200
3rd: NES/Famicom, Atari 7800, Sega Master System
4th Gen: Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and the Sega 32X
5th: Hooray, the Nintendo 64
6th: Hoo boy, everyone knows this. PlayStation 2, Sega Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox
7th: Fool

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

If someone says something about generations of gaming the first thing i think of is "How the hell did i get into this conversation?!"

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

And the answer would be "Because you have nothing better to do than eat Doritos all day and type on your PC"

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

"First Generation" makes me think of the original Playstation, Xbox and GameCube. It's really odd because the "industry" seems to refer to everything as the first generation now.

Though, nowadays whenever I hear the word, "Generation", I tend to think of iPod Nanos, oddly enough.

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

When I think of "generations", I think of Spore o.0

Actually, when I think of the first gen. I think of things like the NES, ColecoVision, stuff like that

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

Ahhh... The NES... The Golden Console... Got one sitting right next to be actually. You haven't playing Mario until you have played the Mario Bros/Duck Hunt cartridge. And I still have the zapper and some of the original cables are still in their plastic packaging unopened.

And for some odd reason I think of first generation as PS2, Xbox and Gamecube. Really, I don't know why. Maybe it is because the PS2 and Xbox were the consoles that I have played the most, excluding my 360.

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

It used to be, when I heard "first generation", I would think about floppy disks, the big and really floppy disks. There was a game that I played endlessly called King's Columns. I never won, not once.

Now, when I hear the term, I think about yesterday and the most recent technology that has been rendered outdated, outclassed, useless/obsolete. On that note, no more VHS, ever. It died today. For consoles, I think about the GameCube, GameBoy Advance, PlayStation 2, and the XBox.

The definitions of everything have changed to reflect on the newer people coming in. What was first generation for me is mythical legend of ancient history to people only a couple of years younger, and fairy tales to those a few years younger than that.

The Gamecube and PlayStation 2 aren't dead yet. Sony and Nintendo are trying to squeeze every last penny out of them ;)

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

Well think about it.

Sega invented the 32X and the Sega CD to keep the Genesis alive and well. But there was news about Sega Neptune which would be the 32X by itself. And Sega released the 32X and CD add-ons at the end of the generation.

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

That was because the N64DD was released only in Japan.

Whereas the CD and 32X were released in North America

I'll not have you ruin what I say.
I don't hear any Japanese people saying how the N64 sucks because of the N64DD. Better?
Where'd droded, he can ask someone for us.

The add-ons suck, but the base system rocked. Place the suckiness where it is due, but don't throw it on the base system. Blame Sega for making the add-ons, the console was perfect.

So Japanese people thought the N64 was A-OK, but here it automatically sucks??!!

HOW DARE U ATTACK MEH FAVORITE SYSTEM :realmad:

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

I still have my N64, and it still plays my games, just fine.:)

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

Mine too.

So anyway, like I said, when someone says "first gen", I think of NES, ColecoVision, InteleVision, Atari 2600...

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

But I like putting (lol) words in peoples mouths.

Whats better, ColecoVision or InteleVision?

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

does the "64" in "N64" mean anything?

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

Probably, but for now I don't know. Maybe it was a 64 bit system. O.o And the N64 is an awesome system. I like the translucent purple controller. :D Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, and Iggie's Reckin' Balls was freakin' fun. I wish I had, I think it is called, Goldeneye. Go 007.

I have Goldeneye 007, one of my favorites. :D Zelda is great too. :)

The 64 was in reference to the system having a 64-bit CPU architecture, which was better than anything else at the time. This was one-upped by Nintendo's GameCube, Sony's PlayStation 2, Sega's Dreamcast, and Microsoft's XBox.

I've got Donkey Kong 64, still one of my favorites. But my Zelda and GoldenEye cartridges don't work anymore. :(
Which one?

I have both OoT and MM

Re: What do you think of when a person says "First Generation"?

They have batteries??? Well at least it is a quick fix. :P And I completely forgot about Donkey Kong 64! I loved that game. Too bad I don't own it. I remember when you went to that island and played the original when you pulled the lever .
