For the most part I would think we can give them links to the other threads first off, then if they're all too old and closed they can continue...
however, sometimes there are topics that have been discussed to death and nobody wants to talk about it anymore and that can be tricky... if that person alone is the only person that has anything more to say on the subject, it kind of defeats the notion of a discussion forum and makes it look like a blog... especially when they get frustrated that nobody is replying and start bumping their thread over and over and talking to themselves when the fact is nobody has anything more to say and doesn't care...
so yeah... read old threads and if you have something new and groundbreaking, make a new one if the old one is dead... but not to just to say "I think this is cool" or "why aren't you jerks replying" or "Todd smells funny" or something

Spambot but quite a smart one.

Re: What to do when you're New?

Ah hell, the topic is already revived anyway, so I'll post my thoughts.

Necromancy is evil and it smells bad, m'kay? So dont do it.

In the case of wanting to discuss a topic/issue/debate, the person should just make a new thread, reviving old discussions is annoying. If the person has a question, they should serch for the answer first, if they find an answer they should just take it and be on their way without posting. If they dont find the answer, they should then start a new thread. To me, reviving old topics is really ok in the case of pub games.

As for topics being discussed to death, its just gonna happen one way or another. Old members should just accept that. If their tired of an old subject, they should just ignor it. If not, then just share their thoughts again.

Like how the thread about the spambots will die, right?

Advertising, mostly. At least, that's what I am assuming.

It can't possibly be an affective for of advertising, can it? That does seem to be what most of them are for, but does anyone really respond to that garbage?

Re: What to do when you're New?

Actually i have heard of lots of people falling for most of it. But idk, I think its more directed to a younger age. Like teens. But then again i dont see how people can. All the crap they even advertise is fake or doesnt work

Re: What to do when you're New?

There should be a stickied thread with links to all useful and talked to death questions.

It's the eternal question when you join a forum, after all, it's important to follow protocol and respect the work of the mods, administration, and fellow poster's etc. It's a little quiet here at the moment which is a pity, as it is a really great forum, but I guess interest in Fable game's has diminished since we haven't really had a proper fable game since 3, I hope as a new member that that changes when we finally get Legends, and possibly a stand alone fable game in the future.

Our glory days were fantastic and a shame that new members haven't witnessed how things were back then hopefully things turn a corner with some "good" titles and activity picks up.

It's tough. I was a member here years ago, but somehow lost my login along with the email I used back then, so I had to start fresh. I have been active in many Fable communities since the early days of the game. My friend and I are even starting a Fable-themed blog for our writing and artist friends who draw amazing fan art. All I had wanted to do was participate in a thread in which I needed to post a link to some of my work, but because of anti-spam rules, I have to bring my count to 10 before that can take place. In a way, the anti-spam rules sort of promote spamming. I spent a good hour typing up a post with pictures and links and it's just sitting open in another tab, waiting for me to hit that magic threshold where I am considered a worthy poster and not a robot spammer trying to sell you all the latest dieting scheme. So, I admit to going through threads, trying to find ones that I can add to in order to be able to post this article that I took the time to write and illustrate. Apologies if the unfortunate byproduct of these actions was bumping old threads. :(

please don't necro old threads.

As I said, I apologize if (in retrospect) I may have. It isn't something I set out to do, and moving forward, I will only reply on current discussions. That said, I hope what I took the time to write and explain does not just go unnoticed. Placing a 10 post minimum on anyone wanting to perhaps share some of their fan work is a good way to induce unintentional spam.

The 10 post limit to post links is to prevent spambots posting malicious links etc rather than to encourage members to post so yeah it's a necessary evil I'm afraid. Prevents you all losing your savings to Viagra bots at least.
