X-Box Live Update?

Hey peeps,

Well just yesterday, I got my X-Box connected to the internet, but it said I needed to download the new update to join, except when I try downloading it, it says it couldn't download it.


I tested my connection, and it says I'm connected, but it still won't work.
I looked on the X-Box website, but I couldn't find anything like this :S, but this happened to my friend aswell .

Can anyone help me ?

Yeap, said it was connected and wired and everything, and once it got to the Xbox Live part of the test it told me to update again :S

Does everything work ok on Live? Can you see all the marketplace and online friends?

I only connected like 10 minutes before trying to download the update :S.

Am I supposed to register first?:wacko:

Hmmm... First time I did it I just plugged it in and it ran some tests and then I renamed my Gamertag. Voila. I was done. Try resetting your router? I dunno.

Well you need a gamertag to access live so have to be registered.

Emm, like the profile you sign into offline that holds your achievements and everything like that? How do I get it online , or register if it's not that :wacko:

I'm sorry, I only got XBox on Christmas, and have NO idea on anything about it

Just scroll over to the Xbox Live Marketplace tab (furthest left) and register that GamerTag with Live (presuming your using the old Dashboard as you arent connected yet). If you want Silver then its free, if you want Gold (to play online) you will have to register a Credit Card. Can change Silver to Gold at later date if you wish.

I didn't need a credit card, I just used a prepaid gold subscription card.

Just scroll over to the Xbox Live Marketplace tab (furthest left) and register that GamerTag with Live (presuming your using the old Dashboard as you arent connected yet). If you want Silver then its free, if you want Gold (to play online) you will have to register a Credit Card. Can change Silver to Gold at later date if you wish.

With my profile thing signed in, the only things in Marketplace are a big square that says Xbox LIVE, and under it, something saying "Join Xbox Live", but whichever one I click on, it says "Checking Network Status" and then a window pops up saying "Update Required" and :


"A console update is avilable from Xbox Live. If you decline, you will be signed out of Xbox Live. For more info, go to www.xbox.com/update.
Do you want to apply the update now?"


When I say yes, it opens the update window, but after a few seconds another window comes up saying Update Failed, so I'm not able to join without downloading the update which keeps failing :hmm:

You can download the update from Xbox.com and burn it to a disc and then put that into your 360 and update that way too.

Downloading Updates to Console

To create a DVD or CD:

1. Click here to begin downloading the update folder. Save it as "$SystemUpdate_Fall07.zip" anywhere on your computer.
2. Place a blank disc in your burner.

From Windows Explorer, select Open Writable CD Folder Using Windows Explorer or open the CD drive icon.
3. Drag the zipped $SystemUpdate_ Fall07.zip folder to the CD Folder. If the CD write window doesn't open by default, drag and drop the folder onto the CD/DVD RW drive.

Note

If you are using an earlier version of Windows you will need to open the file using a separate utility (for example, WinZip).

4. In the Explorer window, click Write files to CD from the CD writing tasks or right-click the CD/DVD RW drive and select Write these files to CD.

Caution

The update filename and folder structure must be intact for the update to run properly.

5. Follow the steps in the CD wizard.

When you are finished with the wizard, the CD will eject. Your CD is ready.

To update the console:

1. Place the CD in the Xbox 360 console.
2. Power cycle the Xbox 360 console.
3. The update program will start automatically. Select Yes, update now and press A.
4. Wait for the update to complete.
5. When the console reboots, you're done.

Its not the NXE but might fix any issues that might be causing your 360 not to update properly.

Is your 360 hooked up to a router to access Live?

Yeap, all the tests say wired and successful, so yeaps.

Yippee! It's fixed!


I rang Microsoft and they told me to just unblock firewall on router .
