I'm surprised that some of the people who have replied to this thread have even bothered, since they must not bother to watch the news.
The operation is nothing like Iraq. The 3 countries SelfAppointedGunslinger mentioned have waited for the UN's approval and are abiding by its rules and regulations. They are imposing a no-fly zone, and have destroyed anti-air defences controlled by Gadaffi Libya.
Gadaffi announced a ceasefire and a truce, which was a blatant lie to buy time against the UN, as he was full of it prior to the UN reaching a decision what with the "we will fight to the death" and whatnot. However, his forces have continued to fight the rebels.
There were also concerns that even if Gadaffi did stop fighting, he has enough men to surround the rebel town(s) and block any supplies coming in and stop anyone leaving. This would practically be a modern-day siege which the UN could do nothing about, as there is no military brutalisation being taken place.
I'm slightly sympathetic and annoyed at people who spout out garbage like "its for oil" or "they'll find some excuse", because they're the "enlightened" ones that don't watch the news but instead read the crap that is published in newspapers and take it as gospel.
