No such thing as free TV in this country - the BBC command a certain amount of money per month for the "privilege" of receiving a signal, whether that be digital or analogue. If you want cable or satellite TV, aside from Freeview (which sucks anyway), then you need to pay a subscription fee to whichever provider you want (namely SKY or something like Virgin) on top of the licence fee. Even if you watch TV on your mobile phone/internet, you have to pay a licence fee. It's stupid really coz they aren't legally allowed in your home without your permission to check you're not lying when you say you don't watch TV...no one's checked up on me since I cancelled the licence but then again we're genuinely not breaking the law so it doesn't matter even if they did.
If you record or watch TV as it's being played, you need a licence. So if you stream on the internet/mobile phone/etc, you gotta pay.
