BioWare: ME2 Saves Will Not Work in ME3, if you Died.

Mass Effect 2 producer Casey Hudson has revealed that not all Mass Effect 2 saves will work in Mass Effect 3 for players who want to import.

“Dead is dead. Mass Effect 3, as with the rest of the trilogy, is Shepard’s story. If you have a dead Shepard at the end of Mass Effect 2, that saved game won’t import into Mass Effect 3.”

Although, that won’t stop you from playing Mass Effect 3.

“You can play Mass Effect 3 if you died in Mass Effect 2 of course, but you’ll have to create a new Shepard. Harsh? Yes. But we wouldn’t be serious about the concept of a suicide mission if you couldn’t die and your death didn’t have serious consequences.”

Yeah, this should have been obvious, but thought I'd bring it to attention anyway.

During the 'Suicide Mission' it is possible to die, for good. No magic lamps here to bring anyone back to life.

Not really a spoiler, since the developers have been saying it over and over again since the first teaser of ME2.

You mean a New Game Plus in ME2?.. I don't know, I ended up surviving the suicide mission. If you die in ME2 at the end, you'll only have the option to start a New Game in ME3.

Wow. I didn't know that. That is actually pretty freakin' awesome. That really adds a the whole feel that you are on a suicide mission. I wish I would have known that before I went into the last battle. I took it so casually.

I couldn't even find an opportunity to "die" in the finale of Mass Effect 2. I'll have to check a guide or something to see how Shepard's "death" ending is triggered. I died against the final Human-Reaper boss but was not given the option to continue. This is really bugging me now...need to know how to trigger Shepard's death - onwards to gamefaqs!

No, that's not what I meant. If you die in the suicide mission can't you just load a save and keep playing? Or does the save get blocked and the only option is to start a new game?

It will probably 'auto-save' once you trigger the death sequence of Shepard (if you have the feature turned on), but I'm very sure you can load an older manual save and do it over.

You can also have sex with the Ardacht-Yachi (SP?). The game immediately ends cause she kills you.

Wow. Bioware never ceases to amaze. That is pretty cool how you can actually die in one of those situations. It gives a sense of danger to it and you don't feel as invincible anymore.
