Censorship

I was just wondering if there could be a forum option to stop the *ing of "inappropriate" words for those of us who are mature enough to handle it.

I mean, it would only effect your profile so only you see the words or whatever.

I also understand that such a modification would probably drain the forums resources, but it's just a suggestion.

Please refrain from excessive cursing and any attempt to evade the ban words filter, the Fable II Community Forums are aimed at audiences of all ages. Please consider if your post is appropriate for younger visitors.

Why would we implement something that breaks our own rules...?

Also how would you decide who the ones were who could handle it? The adults are mainly the ones that dont go around swearing/cursing and using abusive words to communicate and normally the immature children who do. So how would it work that way around?

Re: Censorship

Cuss words don't affect us in anyway, most 10 year olds don't sign up on a forum anyway so I think everyone here is mature enough to handle it.

Re: Censorship

^Although I love your sig (Korn rules!) you are incorrect, plenty of 10 year olds register, just look at Laharl, somedude X and such...

I could probably find a good list of people around that age here and some who lied about their age when they registered. Not so much about people being mature enough to handle it, it just seems like a morons way of communicating. People dont have to cuss in every sentence to make a valid point and often makes people look stupid who do communicate in this way. Ive got more respect for people who type in proper English and communicate in the proper manner than people who just try to look adult by using expletives in every form of communication. Can also look unwelcoming to guests viewing the forums and put people off registering.

Re: Censorship

People don't cuss every other word on here though it would be the same as it was before except you would be able to better tell what there saying.

Re: Censorship

**** no its **** God **** mother****er!

Now imagine that without restricitons, spammers can annoy more people with curses than with asterisks... there are some "curse" words that are still able, such as damn, and I think ass, since they are not truly curse words... but there should be no need for cursing to get a point across, this, all cursing does in real life is make you look illiterate, all it does on the internet is make you look unintelligent.

So for people to understand what you mean you have to be using bad language? Dont recall people ever not understanding what i mean unless ive just worded something poorly. Ive never felt the need to communicate like that on a forum. Anyone who knows me in real life knows im quite the foul mouthed individual but i dont see a need to communicate like that in text form on a forum & have always made my points quite clear without it. In rare cases where your trying to show proper emotion in text form maybe but not in everyday conversation.

Re: Censorship

I'll say it again: "We're not gonna go against our forum rules.".

Re: Censorship

My bad I don't want the hole word to be unblocked I misread the 1st post.

Re: Censorship

Just for fun I made a mock up of what the selective filter would look like.

Warning it definitely contains some fairly awful words

Re: Censorship

That is awesome. Not the unblock idea, the selective filter thing. +rep.

Re: Censorship

 the PS3 option made me laugh.

Re: Censorship

Yeah, I was looking at that one too. :P

Re: Censorship

i dont think there is such a thing as a "bad" word. words are compleatly neutral, its the context in wich they are used that makes them good or bad. words dont offend me one bit so i wouldnt mind a function like that. unfortunetly there are a lot more imature than mature people out there so they would ruin it. but i dont really see a use for that kind of option, cuz if i were to say "eat **** and die mother****er" everybody knows what i said anyway. your just gonna have to use your imagination.

Unless the adult is a sailor... >_>

Re: Censorship

^That explains a lot.

And yes, I don't know who the hell just got up and said "these words are bad." And don't say that bible-mountain-god-gave-whats-his-face-tablets thing either.

Re: Censorship

The nature of "bad words" is irrelevant. The rules are not. How can it not be clear by now?

Re: Censorship

^Its pretty clear, just go ahead and close it if you want.
