McAfee and Norton are terrible in my opinion, AVG isn't bad. Smart browsing and downloading from safe places are your best bet... also, when downloading torrents always read the comments (especially if you're downloading from public trackers).

Agreed and AVG is decent for a free program. Ive had some bad causes of Malware that have slipped through but got some other programs to deal with that.

I have had MacAfee and AVG On the last two PCs that broke, my parents have used Norton for 6 years and never got a virus, my old PC never got a virus and had Norton, my friends don't catch viruses, they have Norton.

The Virus APPEARS gone, I have killed four infections, but ocassionaly when I am on the Internet, a random tab will pop up with an advertisement, that isn't too serious is it? How can I stop it? (I know this isn't a tech forum)

I had McAfee and it was good for a while until it kept bugging me with notifications to upgrade it to a pro version etc and slowed my computer down. Norton was the reason my PC broke before as it decided that some perfectly legitimate registry files were viruses and deleted them, making my windows unstable and unable to load.

Sounds like Malware or a bad case of spyware to me. I shall post a link to the 2 programs i use to get rid of it when im home from work.

And I can't remember who posted something about Malewarebytes, but my God, that is a LIFESAVER. Get it. Seriously. It may save you one day.

Do they download torrents? Do they go onto places that are a bit unsafe? The way a teenager uses the internet and the way a parent uses the internet is almost always entirely different.

I just checked my computer, I have Macafee, AVG, AND Malwarebytes all on here, but I am still having that random tab opening.

Erm, you should not have several antivirus softwares at once on your PC. They will clash. Scan with only one and in safe mode.

I have kaperscan and that imo is the best anti virus, I think without it my computer would be totally ****ed haha, although I once made the mistake of ignoring it's warning, then I turned it back on when **** hit the fan and I donno what the hell happened, but that beast pwned whatever virus I had
