I recommend 'Violent Femmes' and 'Nitzer Ebb'. They are bands I associate with 'New Wave'. Not as hard as 'The Sex Pistols', but good in my opinion.
Oooh yeah. Love Violent Femmes, haven't heard Nitzer Ebb but i they're in the same boat as other New Wave stuf I'm sure I'll like it.And cheers for those bands DS, will give them a try as well.

EDIT: now that jwc has mentioned it, could I please get some other band names akin to Violet Femmes, Talking Heads, The Beat, Fine Young Cannibals. Some songs:

Violet Femmes - Gone Daddy Gone, Good Feeling

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer

The Beat - Mirror in the Bathroom, Hands off She's Mine

Fine Young Cannibals - I'm not the Man I used to be.

Err, sure?

@Purple: I'll see if I can find anything, although I'm not familiar with those bands.

Cheers DS, don't strain yourself too hard though, the other punk bands you gave me are more than sufficient.

Well sure, but that's a cartoon, not a band.

I'm not just doing this for you, I'm doing this for my own musical journey and for others in the process.

True, but you can still get Dethklok music off iTunes.

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

Yes, and it is the worst death metal out there in terms of good death metal. But the only reason I don't hate them is because they aren't meant to be serious, and this is a music discovery thread - everyone knows Dethklok. It'd be like me posting Slipknot material.

Plus, iTunes? No thanks, you can keep your low quality overpriced pieces of data.

How about the Screaming Jets? The Living End are **** hot aswell.

Out of curiosity, what songs did you listen to by those bands? I love them, and I want everyone else to love them too.

Also, cheers for the Rep, btw.

Australian Crawl - Boys Light Up, Land of Hope and Glory, Oh No, Not You Again
Hunters and Collectors - Holy Grail, Do you see what I See
Midnight Oil - Beds are Burning
Cold Chisel - Daskarzine, No Good for You
Skyhooks - Jukebox in Siberia (couldn't find anything else on youtube)
Silverchair - Freak, Ana's Song, Cemetary, Miss You Love, Abuse Me
Screaming Jets were pretty good, but they only had one song of theirs on youtube (Eve of Destruction) which was a little preachy.
The Living End - Prisoner of Society, White Noise, Raise the Alarm, Sunday Bloody Sunday.

1 word: moar.
keep it contemporary plz? :D

Good stuff. I recommend checking out New Wave stuff, they incorporate alot of early punk, mod and other cool genres. It might not be to your taste but I think it is funky.

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

I listen to Dethklok, because I really like Brendan's guitar work, but if you like them, you should listen to some other viking metal, Amon Amarth is similar to them, although I don't like Amon Amarth too much, but a simple google search on viking metal, or melodic death metal (although Dethklok's not too melodic) would come up with some good names.

Look up Manegarm, Thyrfing and Moonsorrow for the best viking metal has to offer.

As far as songs go, I'd recommend Bow River, Standing on the Outside, You Got Nothing I Want and a live version of the Star Hotel by Cold Chisel, and Better by the Screaming Jets. And if you liked Silverchair then check out Tomorrow and Greatest View.

EDIT: I also recommend Million Dollar Riff by the Skyhooks, only because there's this great section where thy play a bunch of famous guitar riffs at the same time.

As for more bands, what about the Hoodoo Gurus, Powderfinger and Grinspoon?

And if you can't get something on YouTube, give Grooveshark a go.
