District 10?

For those of you who have seen District 9, would you want a sequel, and do you think they would make one? I would answer yes to both questions.

District 9 was an insanely awesome (and slightly weird) movie. Its plot was great, and it didn't exactly tie up all the loose ends when the movie was over, leaving a lot of potential for a sequel.

I also googled District 10, and found this...

"District 9," the blazing hot new science-fiction movie which raked in $37 million in its first weekend, may be headed for a sequel.

Neill Blomkamp, the film's director, says "the studio wants a sequel," in an exclusive interview with the Sci-Fi Movie Page. The 29-year-old South Africa-born filmmaker said it's already being referred to as "District 10."

Entertainment Weekly also said on its Web site that the critically acclaimed tale of extraterrestrials living in squalor in South Africa "is destined for a sequel, ASAP."

"District 9" was made for $30 million and had grossed $42.5 million as of Wednesday, less than a week after it opened. It knocked "G.I. Joe" - which was panned by reviewers - from the No. 1 spot at the box office over the weekend.

Re: District 10?

Seeing as how District 9 was a analogy to the segregation in South Africa between black and whites, hows about we make the sequel an analogy about Mexicans sneaking across the border to the USA? And some sort of Men in Black-esque faction trying to stop them, lol.

Re: District 10?

I didn't like the movie that much, it's reference to the apartheid was just as bad as Avatar's references to hippies, and that put me off. I was also weirded out by it just a bit much. But I love the South African accents.

Re: District 10?

On August 1, 2009, two weeks before District 9 was released to cinemas, Neill Blomkamp hinted that he intended to make a sequel if the film was successful enough. During an interview on the "Rude Awakening" 94.7 Highveld Stereo breakfast radio show, he alluded to it, saying "There probably will be." Nevertheless, he revealed that his next project is unrelated to the District 9 universe.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Blomkamp stated that he was "totally" hoping for a follow-up: "I haven't thought of a story yet but if people want to see another one, I'd love to do it."

NO

Leave a good thing alone. If a sequel is made, I will not support it. >_>
