How long do you think you'll still be a gamer?

Hmm, I guess my answer would be similar to other answers in here. I'll just stop gaming when I don't feel like it anymore, but it's difficult to imagine that happening. I've imagined myself gaming as I got older, maybe even playing games with my kid(s) later in my life.

All my life.

I could see myself playing 'till I die; However, I know this most likely won't be the case. I'm 28 years old and still rocking the games strong, but I know that if something life changing happens, I'd become a "Casual" gamer.

My problem is my job. I work a lot, like today 12-6, and because I take the bus I get home at 7. Sometimes I open the next day which means I have to go to bed an hour after I get home, and 1-2 hours of video game playing is actually not enough time at all now a days. Games are longer and sometimes things IN the game takes longer. I'm more of a casual gamer now. My highschool days I used to play games CONSTANTLY, but there's so much I want to do with so little time.

Not to mention there's a lot of people I talk to on the computer, that I CAN'T talk to if I'm downstairs playing a game. Makes it hard to divide my attention. Either way, I'll probably be playing games for the rest of my life, or as long as my brittle arthritic hands can take it. I love them TOO much to EVER give them up, and it amazes me to see the new things they come out with.

That being said, someone buy me a Kinect and That Dancing game, cause I fricken want it. >:C

Yeah work gets in the way of my gaming time too most the time and ive been working extra hours for weeks now.

Even if I become super rich and can do any thing I wanted (ie travel) I would still take time to play my favourite video games(Halo, Fable, Zelda Elder Scrolls I could go on…). Be it for nostalgic reasons or because I truly find the games fascinating (got the halo encyclopaedia for my b-day, read though it in a week) If its something I thoroughly enjoy, why would I quit? I still watch cartoons and im 22.

More than likely I'll remain a gamer for the rest of my life. They've been a huge part of it for so long, I'll adress a lot of that in my upcoming thread.

The main reason for me I suppose is that my favorite genre, rpg's (especially strategy/tactical rpgs), have SO many titles that I've yet to play. They're rather time consuming so they'll keep me busy while I wait for worthwhile modern games to come out.

Plus there's always classic gaming to be had. For those of you in the newer generation there's a whole library of games you've probably never played or even heard of. While some have been all too spoiled by modern gaming, the classics are called that for a reason.

Anyway, I don't want to rant. I'm saving it for my thread.

I'm late into the whole gaming scene, having only gotten into it when I met Steve 6 years ago - however, I don't see myself ever not wanting to play them, it's more not having the time. Three kids, four sites and my job (which I occasionally remember to do something for) take up huge portions of my time and it's rare I get a few hours spare to really knuckle down and get stuck into a title. Which is a huge shame because most of the games I like require a lot of time to play them.

And once all my kids get into games, I'll have even less time to get a go at playing anything. Kids are mean... :(

But that's in New South Wales! New South Wales is s*** (probably)!
YOU DID NOT TYPE THAT!
(I live in Wollongong, so you know)
Anyway, in relevance to the topic:
Not till the XboxUnlimited when we're all able to download into a Virtual World (Temporarily, I in no way mean anyone would want to become integrated with a computer) and time slows down in reality as we play as our real selves. Why the Hell would you do that? You'd really want cheat codes, wouldn't you?

Yeah I have the same issue pretty much, I find myself putting more time into games and purchasing games that require dedication and time to get through. I mean Skyrim has taken nearly 80 hours of my time so far and still got loads of games to get through and got my eye on other new upcoming releases too. Really got to find some extra time outside work to get some real gaming time in and get through them without rushing them.

Sometimes it feels like one has to rush just to be able to play all the games one wants. I only work 32 hours per week and even still I don't have the time to play everything I want to. I have console games to play, just started Diablo 2 again, plus I have my MMO City of Heroes to play. That's not even including SecondLife either. I'm booked! Granted i have no children but Sephi and I do spend time with one another that doesn't involve video games sometimes. You know, couple together time. *ahem* Anyway, I work from the evening to midnight so I get a couple hours after work, and the mornings as well.

*sighs* I have too many games to play lol.

I know the feeling ive currently got Modern Warfare 3 to finish (campaign so shouldnt take long), Assassins Creed Revelations, Batman Arkham City, Skyrim, Saints Row The Third, Battlefield 3 online, WWE 12 and then Syndicate, Mass Effect 3 & The Darkness 2 on the way amongst some others ive got my eye on. I work fulltime, live with my girlfriend & have a child in the house and 6 pets so time is limited and juggled around between everyone. I tend to find a day to play and play for 5-6 hours then im unable to play for a while until I get another day free. If I go too long without gaming I get cranky.

Oh Syndicate looks really good. Actually really can't wait to play that one. I watched the preview and it looks like F.E.A.R. a bit with the melee moves (which more fps's need imho). Should be amazing.

"Couple....together...time?" *exchanges uncomprehending looks with Steve* WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT YOU SPEAK OF???

Maybe... Sephi and I are just the odd exception? *shrug* We're weird, I know that much.

I was thinking Mirrors Edge style camera effects with Deus Ex:Human Revolution look and some elements of Chronicles of Riddick gunplay.

I suppose it combines a lot of elements from a lot of games. Not necessarily a bad thing really, as long as it can still manage some semblance of originality. It really depends on the gameplay for me. Graphics are cool, I hope the storyline is at least decent, soundtrack would help... but with a game like that the gameplay had better be nothing short of badass and epic.

Oh yeah, I went there. Victoria is easily better than NSW

Combining the good elements of many games is a great idea because they have already been proven to work. So if this is the case and the story is as good as it looks and the combat is as smooth as the trailers show it could be very special. I have high hopes for it with Starbreeze at the helm and I really hope it ends up good as many have already cast it aside as another FPS remake of a classic game.

One can only hope right? From what I know of game trailers... they never ever paint an accurate picture. I'll have to actually play it to see. But if it takes fps's to the next level (which I'm hoping it will), we could see a new revolution in shooters. Honestly stuff like melee moves, cover OPTIONS (not requirements or basing the entire game around that aspect), and acrobatic moves are the next generation of shooters.

At this point in gaming one genre simply isn't enough. In the classic days one genre was more than enough for the development costs and the small teams that made the games. In the modern gaming era of high budget games and very large design teams, there's absolutely no reason why a game should be just an fps, or a fighting game. These genre's need to start merging more, and hybrid genre's need to be the new norm.

Think about it, a game like Street Fighter should have an action/platformer/beat'em up mode. Why not? You have the characters and their moves, now just make extra baddies and bosses, a world to explore and challenges to overcome all while fighting. It makes sense and while it would take more effort, it would create a much more worthwhile game.

Yeah and im liking that shooters and RPG have a good blend going on right now with titles like Deus Ex and Fallout series. I know they are RPG first and shooter second but it really works well and I think more shooters should incorperate RPG elements into them too. Melee and cover systems should be standard in shooters now, developers have found systems that work afterall.
