Sean, you make it sound like nulcear bombings are a common thing in warfare, yet there have only been 2 offensive detonations in history, so stop saying americas going to be nuked. Stop posting, leave this thread and you may have a chance of regaining any respect the people posting in this thread once had for you.

Perhaps he meant biodegradable. "Green" mines can be placed in large piles of fertile dirt and then detonated to provide a good topsoil for destroyed farms.

Umm. Yes, that`s what I was thinking. hehe

Don't understand virtually ANYTHING in the first post but I'll add this: the only people with an issue about funded healthcare are those who stand to lose money and/or privileged positions. We have government funded healthcare in the UK and whilst it's not perfect, it's much better than someone going without vital healthcare because they have the wrong insurance or not enough money. Healthcare for all should be a basic human right, not an optional extra so long as you have the cash.

Indeed. Capitalism is soooo wonderful, and socialism sure does suck, eh?

Actually, I love the people on these forums, I respect all of them, I'm just like this over debates about war/politics/whatever, and they know that, I think. But, I forgot that I actually gave a damn about what anybody think about me, haha, it's their opinion to respect me or not, don't give a **** if they don't. I wouldn't blame 'em. But I love these threads so I'm not gonna leave, sorry buddy.

Shut the hell up. Actually, no, it's okay, I don't have respect for you either so it doesn't really matter.

If that was a snide remark at my expense I'm afraid you'll have to expand further. We pay taxes in this country to fund our healthcare system and it means everyone gets the basics without having to pay extras. No one is denied a scan because it's too expensive for them, or a transplant because it's not covered in their insurance policy, for example. Maybe I just don't understand a privatised healthcare system well enough *shrug*

Fine, if you want to keep debating this, go ahead.

Now if only I knew you enough to care.

Oh-no-no-no, nothing of the sort dearest. Was a jab at how them yanks think this new health-care system is the devil.

Sweden has a great public healthcare system and I wouldn't trade it for a privatized one, so I definitely agree with you.

Re: I believe USA is done for ;(

Might have missed the point of this thread - I am loving the NHS, I honestly don't see how anyone couldn't. You can still get privatized healthcare, but you also get free basic healthcare. In fact it was the main reason my parents moved from the States to the UK. Now if I break my arm, the taxpayers pay for me!

Ah, I see...:)

Even our private healthcare isn't as good as the public one, in my opinion. Yeah, you can pay through the nose for private health insurance but it doesn't add all that much to the care you can receive for free. We looked into it a few years back but essentially all it offers is quicker appointment times, your own room in a hospital and getting to the top of certain waiting lists quicker, in some cases. But there are a ton of clauses, loopholes and small print which essentially cut you out of a lot of care - you get cancer, for example, there isn't much help for you in terms of your policy because many of them won't cover terminal illnesses; if they do, there are conditions to your care and all manner of nonsense which you just wouldn't get on the NHS. The NHS isn't perfect by a long shot but it's far far better than nothing at all because you're out of cash to pay to be cared for.

Re: I believe USA is done for ;(

Not talking from my own experience, but I`ve heard too many times when public doctors just don`t care. Like with my uncle - he has a head problem, I don`t know exactly, but I think he`s getting headaches and maybe something else. Anyway, he went to a doctor twice, but they didn`t find anything or the treatment didn`t work. And when he wanted to go for a third time, they said "Ah, you have already had 2 visits, you`d better go to a psychologist." ?
At least with a private doctor, you can be sure your problems are dealt with professionally.

Re: I believe USA is done for ;(

I think it can be hit and miss sometimes. One of the drawbacks of a publicly funded healthcare system is that there are some restrictions and limits in place to make things more efficient in both time and money. For example, it is now policy at my surgery to present one problem per appointment - you've got ten minutes and if you try to bring up your weird rash when you've initially gone in to have your broken finger looked at, they'll ask you to make another appointment for the rash. But to counterbalance this they have NHS Direct which is another free service which lets you talk to a health professional on the phone at no cost to you in the comfort of your own home and they can assess you based on your symptoms, arranging hospital care if need be. Of course, this system gets abused but what system doesn't? I use the service more than my own GP and have found it very useful many times.

Sometimes you get the doctors who have little time for your problems and write you off as quickly as possible - unfortunately, people suck even in the "caring" professions. But when you get a decent doctor, you're winning - my current GP refers me without messing about, reviews my medications as and when I want and does a full check-up when asked.

Underfunding is a major problem with a lot of publicly funded systems and they have to pool their resources when and where they can to provide the best service where it is most needed. Sometimes this is to the detriment of others but unless we are willing to pay obscene taxes, we have to take the rough with the smooth.

Exactly what I percieve of American stoners.

My English teacher broke her leg slipping over on ice, and the NHS surgery room that she was taken to was, no lie, in the back of a van. There is a problem there, but she was fine afterwards and it's better than nothing at all.
