"Now go forth, adventurer! I will stay here and study these glyphs some more," The mage announces.

The adventurer blinks, looks down at the entrance to the dungeon, back up to the mage, the dungeon, and then back at the mage. "What?"

"Go forth!"

"Alone?"

"Yes, I must study these glyphs." The mage gestures at the wall behind him.

"Are you… stupid?"

The mage gaps. "I beg your pardon?"

"I'm am not going down there alone."

"Take Scruffy." The elder man gestures at the equally elderly dog standing at his feet.

"That beast is liable to die of old age before we set one foot in the door," The adventurer throws his sword and shield down to the ground. "No, no, no. Screw this. Screw you. I quit." He saunters back towards the village.

"But who will save the town?!" The mage calls after him.

"Why don't you ask Scruffy?"
