Re: Military shooters are dragging my like of games through a pile of ****
GrimWhim is entirely right about mainstream gamers first and foremost. They are the people who have no real tastes and just buy what the media tells them to. :getlost:
Next, someone mentioned to list examples of games meant to train. S.O.C.O.M., Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Siphon Filter (maybe:'( never played them) and any other game like that are certainly meant to train, and even got advertised as such. The game based on the movie Black Hawk Down is another example of a game meant to train. ^_^
Games like Gears of War or Halo also have aspects like these but aren't near our standards of actual warfare. We aren't facing those enemies with those weapons in those settings. They still however, teach basic principles of war. :sly: That said, and please read this next bit so you understand me, almost any shooter has some form of style to it (survival, stealth, team tactics, hostage rescues, open battlefield, infiltration), and inherently teaches the player the basics of such tasks.
Players learn these skills, and could probably use them in real life if necessary, to varying success due to differences between individuals in strength/speed/stamina/dexterity. It's advertised by it's very nature, but advertising does not FORCE someone to do anything.
A person always has the right to choose. Too many people let the media choose for them, and hence why it's a fine line as to whether or not we're simply being told what to do or not.
Choose for yourselves people, don't let anyone change your opinion as that's what makes us individuals!
Edit: Also 72% of all people who read 90% of all statistics will believe 46% of everything they read, not believe 54% of what they read, and will forget 88% of everything they read. My point is statistics are NOT a good basis for an argument. :yammer:
