Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

You did restart your browser after clearing the cache, correct?

Also, the PE window wasn't open when clearing the cache, correct?

Both of those can alter results.

1. Yes

2. No. Page was set to Blank/Untitled.

Still the same.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

I have had no problems with the forums what-so-ever. <3

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

You know, I was just about to post, "Right, okay, I have absolutely no idea now. Sorry!"

But, and here's a head-scratcher, I have fixed the problem...and I haven't. "Huh?" I hear you say. Well, one thing you guys have in common is that you're using the 'june2010 (with less junk)' template - which I somehow managed to overlook when performing the fixes last night.

I'm gonna sort that out now. Also: If you guys want the template to have 'less junk' then just let me know here and I'll see if removing it is a good idea.

Anywho, NOBODY should encounter the problem now. You might have to reselect the 'with less junk' template again though.

"Mark Forums Read" is still the same (don't worry about it, it's not important for me), however.. good news. Both the Main & Lite themes are now running very smoothly for me, especially since the Lite now looks like the main theme. Nicely Done, Steve-O.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

I can only assume that the problem lies within vBulletin 3.8.5. I performed a fix which was recommended by a few fellow vBulletin licensees who, too, were experiencing the same problem. I guess I might just have to bite the bullet and upgrade to vbulletin 4.0.3 and pray that it isn't quite as bug-riddled as 3.8.5... I think you guys will like v4.0, but it's just crazy-unoptimized and bloated as hell.

If it happens to suddenly start working for you guys then do please let me know. I was certain I'd found the problem, too. Oh well.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

Happens to me to.

So does the other thing, I've been shut out for up to a day.

Tried it on 4 browsers, same error on:

Google Chrome
Firefox
Internet explorer
Opera

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

Okay, guys, I've tried something a little different (no longer hosting the JavaScript files on CloudFront) so please let me know if the problem has been fixed for you. If this doesn't fix the issue, then it's definitely because of the 3.8.4 to 3.8.5 upgrade and I'll need to notify vBulletin support of the problem.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

The version you linked to is the same version we have in use now. I have even manually updated the templates to include the security token validation checks - which was the first thing suggested when I was researching into the problem a few days ago. At the moment I'm thinking two things: Either 'roll-back' to 3.8.4 PL2 or migrate over to IPB 3.1 (which comes out in two days).

I've been wanting to move away from vBulletin for ages (not saying it's definite or even likely at this point) and I've already seen some incredibly sexy templates to use, should we decide to move over to IPB. I haven't properly used IPB since 1.3 (which in turn I haven't used for about 8-9 years) but I'm really not a big fan of vBulletin anymore.

So, site was down for a bit and figured the site was either being rolled back or swapped out for IPB. I see that we still have vB, and I see that it is still 3.8.5, and I see that the error still occurs. When you can, would you catch me up on what happened today?

I thought something might have happened as i posted something in the Phone thread in the off topic area and the post isnt there anymore.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

We've moved to a bigger and better server and any posts that were made during the move will have been left on the old hard drive(s). Regarding the 'Mark Forum Read' error:

1. I can either perform a roll-back - my preferred option.

2. Upgrade to vBulletin 4.0.3 - I really don't want to do this as the skinning system is, IMO, absolute crap and it's just bloated as hell. I really don't like vBulletin anymore. I'd also have to renew my vBSEO license in order to gain access to a version which is compatible with vB 4.0.x.

3. Migrate over to IPB - which is also a little on the bloated side in my opinion, but still better. I'd also have a chance of getting a decent discount as I spoke to Charles (IPB co-founder) some months back and was offered 4 IPB licenses for like $250; I'm hoping he will still honour the offer. I'd like to talk more about this with Andy and see.

Thought my memory was going so glad this isnt the case in this instance.

Throw me a PM and let me know what your concerns and thoughts are and we can talk whatever it is over.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

Guys,

I need to know exactly which 'Mark Forums Read' link it is that is spitting out that security token error. If possible, please provide a screenshot if you want to be extra helpful. I need to know because there are multiple instances of the 'Mark Forums Read' button scattered throughout the forum and I need you guys to help narrow down which ones are causing the problem.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

That's a good sign - that's pretty much the ONLY one that I haven't fixed yet.

The only one I use, the only one I know about, would be the one at the bottom of this page.

Same one I use that's at the bottom of every page, never seen one anywhere else. Error still occurs for me.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

Yeah, I need details on the exact location you guys are clicking on the 'Mark Forums Read' link. JD mentioned the link in the footer and I was able to fix it. There are TONS of instances of the 'Mark Forums Read' links throughout the forum but not all require fixing.

Re: Need your input regarding forum speed and performance

What would you define as baggage, JD? I have a temporary trial account with IPB and I'll be able to give you an answer as to which options can be disabled, if you can specify which features don't seem all that appealing to you.
