I've never had a facebook or a myspace, and I never will. I also refuse to capitalize the names of those sites (just like I do with france and names of religions). Although myspace is dead now (which is awesome), both of these sites are massive time wasters that start pointless and ridiculous bouts of drama from extremely insignificant pictures, comments, and statements. People also tend to get more shallow while using them by doing things like trying to get more friends than other people to seem more popular. As ScareCrow said, people also use it as something to hide behind. Because people chat on facebook instead of talking face to face, they end up acting tougher or cooler. Then, they turn out to be a total pussy or a douche in real life. For example, I was having a sh*tty day a while ago, and I got into an argument with one of my friends while we were texting. He said I didn't have the balls to say what I was saying except through texting, so I called him to say it over the phone. He then rejected my call and continued the argument through texting. Why do you think this is? He used to have a myspace and currently has a facebook. I've never had either one. You do the math.

I would also like to say that continued use of myspace or facebook tends to suck people into it, gets them more attached or addicted, and makes them more susceptible to everything mentioned in the rant above.

Enjoy.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to do that in the first place anyway?

As you can see, it's a somewhat long explanation, so I didn't want to type it all up again. I assumed that anyone who cared about my reasons for disliking it probably would have been part of the facebook thread anyway, but whatever, it's here now.

That explains why you don't use Facebook or MySpace, but nothing about the like-system itself. I use the like system, and I swear, I'm not acting tougher and cooler than in real-life. I AM on Facebook (although, not too often), and I'm just like I am in real life. Not using the Like-system because it's also used on Facebook, but meanewhile wanting to use the Rep system seems (seems) like you just do that because of the name. And that's lame.I think you should base it on what the system contains, rather than what the name of the system can be associated with. If someone is named Hitler or Bin Laden, it doesn't make him or her a bad person. Likewise, the Like-system shouldn't be disregarded just because you know the FAcebook has a like-system.

I'm not complaining about what you do, but about your argumentation against the like-system. ;) Go ahead and not-like the likable stuff. ^_^

Geez, people act like there are no plus sides to Facebook. Honestly, my dad just reunited with a crapload of old friends from his childhood. How is that a negative? All the bouts of drama aren't caused by the site itself, but by the immature people who use it. The whole point is to be able to connect and talk to friends and whatnot. What is wrong with that? Some people act like morons and you hate the site's guts?

I just re-united with a bunch of school friends from 4 years ago, too. Facebook is fantastic if used correctly, and it has nothing to do with some of the perfectly functional and good features of Facebook being used here. I don't get the drama that Necromancer is drudging up.

Rep system = Facebook hate.

Uh..yeah, I totally see that :ermm:

Anyway, as with any new software system you kind of have to go with what you get. This system uses Like instead of rep or karma or whatever else is out there. It's hardly life-changing stuff and if you don't like the system, then simply don't use it. And yes, it really is that simple.

Also, the rep system with the power element was flawed in that people could hand out insane amounts of rep - which is a bit dumb if all you are repping is your bestest forum friend for saying "lawl". They then end up with a ridiculous rep count which in turn warrants an entire thread debate about how unfair it is that so-and-so's rep count is higher than whoever's. Case in point - DevilMayCry boards. Since no longer being admin, my rep power is CRAZY high as Cheez can confirm. Every time I rep someone they get about 10,000 points. Now I'm fairly careful who and why I rep but most just rep for the lulz. At least with the Like system people seem to be thinking before clicking which gives a better representation (albeit still inaccurate at times) of what is genuinely a good post.

Which in turn makes all the staff want to take a loooooong holiday instead of having to deal with a tonne of PM's saying "waa! waa! his rep penis is bigger than mine and I've been here longer!"

Which is all a moot point because even if we did have the rep system back I would obviously have the highest because I can add whatever the hell I like to my count.

there's a flaw in your logic.
my 2 million rep = win
your argument is invalid. :)

Aaaaaand who gave you the VAST majority of your rep, young man?

Invalid argument is valid until I say otherwise.

I asked for an explanation as to why you didn't like some of the functionalities here being somewhat similar to Facebook, not why you don't like Facebook. As it stands all I can see is a personal bias that has nothing to do with the site's functionality. Care to revise your answer?

It's a matter of principle. I don't expect you to understand, and I don't expect you to agree with it. People rarely do when I do things like this. That's why I said what I said to Tyloric on the first page of this thread.
