There have been big rumors and leaks regarding the next generation Xbox. People are believing them to be true because developers supposedly have dev kits of the new Xbox and are working on launch titles.Xbox World magazine has released information aswell and are expected to do a big reveal in later issues.
I cannot confirm any of this information to be true.
NAME:The name of the Xbox has many rumors surrounding it. 720 or codename durango are probably not the name of the new console. People are saying it might be called Xbox 8 or infinity, also xbox loop all having to do with the infinity symbol. They are probably though, going to simply call it Xbox as Apple does with it's Ipod's and Ipad's as new versions come out every year.
FEATURES: The new console will have Kinect technology built in. It will have Kinect 2.0 which will be able to recognize up to four people and recognize the motion of your fingers. Hopefully it will not be racist like the old kinect which had a hard time recognizing black people. It boasts 8gigs of ram which is impressive. It will have four cores dedicated to different systems. It will have a blue ray disc reader. It will have a custom version of the HD radion 6670 which by its release will be outdated by Pc's. The new Xbox will be smaller than the old one. Upon release there will be a full version and a casual version with much less features as the price with be exorbitant. Can support 3D.It will have tech built in for the later release of augmented reality glasses. It might run Windows 8 or 9, this would explain the dorky and childish interface of windows 8 which I thought was directly inspired by the xbox interface.
RELEASE DATE: Apparently it was supposed to be released in 2012 but could not make the deadline because of manufacturing issues. This leads me to believe that it probably won't be released in 2013 either. It might be released september of 2013 or by Christmas, this makes sense because they would capitalize on the holiday season. Microsoft might release the official debut at this year's E3 but they might come up with its own release stage as Sony is rumored to have something up their sleeve.

Speculations: Microsoft pushes the Kinect down developer's throats, the new console will probably in its design encourage kinect interface in games, for better or worse. Microsoft wants the Xbox to be an entertainment hub, there will probably some sort of apps store, a better internet explorer, and much more connectivity. The xbox might not have a huge hard drive for storing memory, they probably will emphasize cloud storage. You might not be able to download games anymore they might stream them like onlive. Here's a scary thought, Microsoft might have systems in place to somehow make the used game industry defunct. This is something they have hinted at. The 360 was designed to play big open world games, the new focus are shoot em up games, I do not know what the implications would be of that.

My thoughts: The 360 can no longer compete with Pc's as it is a decade old. Since not every Pc is the same developers have to make patterns of code so that their game can run smoothly, with consoles developers know exactly what will be in the engine and can squeeze some extra juice out of the tech. So I believe the new console will be able to compete for up to 5 years with Pc's.

I just got a new exbawks...

I've also heard "Xbox Next" as a possible title.

Recently read an article from a credible source with a picture of the thing.

Looks like the Xbox 360 slim while you're drunk, no?
Lol it's actually slim. I'm looking forward to a new console, I hope the release date is accurate my ancient original 360 is finally dying. I turn it off but sometimes the engine is still running and I have to turn it back on, and the disc eject isn't working sometimes which is scary.

The last time I heard Microsoft talk about next gen they said they were considering dropping the Xbox name.

No, I don't have a link to the article. It was more than a year ago.

That would be interesting. I'm very worried about the name of the next console, Xbox 360 was a good cool name. Other consoles still seem like toys made for children, the Xbox has the bad ass personality with it so I hope they don't make it gay. I hope the design aswell won't be cheezy an any way either.

You homophobic or a homosexual, I don't understand what upsets you. I remember you were quite the grammar nazi in the days of Olde, is it the use of slang perhaps?

Gay being used as a synonym for stupid strikes a nerve.

Lmao, then Cheez, that was great!

Yeah sorry guys lol.

I don't know that we can be friends anymore. I just see you differently now. :(

Whatever goofy name they decide for the next Xbox is the least of my worries, all I hope is that they make a better effort with backwards compatibility this time around. Not being able to play a bunch of my favorite Xbox games on the 360 made me a terribly sad panda.

Also, lets try not to have any red rings this time around Microsoft. Please?

Why is this topic full of old farts? 2010 members master race.
That is the first time in my LIFE I've been called old, oh gawd, it's happening.

It wasn't technology that was the problem last time, there were contracts and such that Microsoft didn't want to breach, I think they didn't want to pay royalties eghr something...which is why there was a 2 page approved list.

Honestly, they could make so many mistakes I don't even want to think about it until I have seen the thing itself.

Yeah I would be disappointed if I couldnt play most of my 360 games on it as there are a lot of games I have & that are coming this year that I want or didnt get around to purchasing last year. Dont want to be juggling 2 consoles to have to play them all. Also hope they have rid themselves of the sort of issues that plagued the 360 during its lifecycle.

4 things I am most worried about based on the info I have:
1. It will be utilizing the HD radion 6670, this is a sixth series piece of hardware, Pc users already have access to the seventh series.
2. Blue ray compatible, I've heard blue ray will be outdated in a few years.Does this mean we can't play regular DVDs?
3. Knowing Microsoft there will be a wholly new set of issues.
4. There is talk that they have some sort of new systems in place that will make playing used Cd's harder, which would be a major blow to game shops everywhere.

I'll bet a lot of people will rage if achievements don't get carried over too.

I never thought of that, hopefully you can have your same profile with it all intact.

Especially that one guy a few years back who had the record of like 300,000 gamer score.

Id imagine they will find a way to carry that over, or at least some medal/banner with the score you did have on it. I mean they can tell the people who have been registered on live since the beginning on the original Xbox (those in USA that got the anniversary consoles) so I dont see why not. The original Xbox didnt have achievements to carry over to 360 so I guess they might even already have it figured out.
