Re: Orginial vs Remake

Those Jaws endings scarred me for life. They sucked that much.

Sequels ruin films. Scream, Jaws, Saw, Tremors... They should have a maximum of one sequel then be done.

Re: Orginial vs Remake

Nah well he actually means old classics like Vertigo and some others that are pretty crap but only credited because they are old - that is, compared to some newer titles.

I haven`t seen many classics (save Vertigo and it truly was bad in my opinion) myself, but I do believe some are over-appreciated.

Also, I can`t stand the acting in old Hollywood movies (pre-70s) - though I understand it wasn`t caused by bad actors, just that trends were differemt back then). Still, Russian (or well, USSR) actors shine in comparison.

Tremors is another great movie in my book (Kevin Bacon!). I also enjoyed the 4th, didn`t like 2nd and 3rd much. And the series wasn`t that bad.

Tremors... ahh... good stuff. That's the reason why I was afraid to move down into the basement for a few years. Damn room aint got reinforced walls, and my parents wouldn't listen to reason.

On a related note to this, a lot of people have declared to me that Avatar is the best movie ever. I ask them what it's about and they say that it's 3D. I ask what the plot is and they say the graphics are awesome. I ask what the time and setting of the movie are and they say that the special effects are unrivaled. I am convinced that they have no idea whatsoever what Avatar is about. Further, I firmly believe that there is a similar problem in games these days. But that's off topic.

Plot-wise, Avatar is Dances with wolves in space. With hot furry space smurfs and mecha-warrior suits!

Haha, same here, but I was actually reluctant to go outside.. Although I was safe in my concrete foundation house.

Avatar
And John hit the nail there. The friend I was talking about thiks highly of Avatar too. But I`m not going to discuss that here, he has a twisted taste in movies, we argue about everything all the time.

Re: Orginial vs Remake

Agreed with Tsuyu that Avatar was a very powerful experience. Amplified by the fact that it was my first 3D movie.

But when I think about it now, it just doesn`t carry the same emotion. And that`s what makes it weak(er) in my opinion. I mean, I do admit it was a very good experience, but nothing that will have a long life. Special effects are something that will be done better soon..

Re: Orginial vs Remake

^I did, that's why when it came to those options I said "The first Start Wars, The Latest SW, The First Godfather, the Latest..." and in the question I said: "Which are better than first or original?"

Thank you for voting Hobbes, if you did.

Re: Orginial vs Remake

Prefer the originals on that list, although I did enjoy the Dawn of the Dead remake over the terribly made original.

Also, that Superman film wasn't a remake, but a sequel and a tribute to Christopher Reeve.

Re: Orginial vs Remake

what? the original dawn of the dead was so badass, i like the remake better but still and damn i thought the new superman wus a remake.. i learn something new everyday.

Re: Orginial vs Remake

I think they did make a Superman remake, and they made a sequel.

Anyway, I'm now giving rep to people who vote. I've given to almost everyone so far. I've given too much today, I have to give to Purple Nurple, Daemon, Sean and Anain. Don't worry guys.

So when you guys vote let me know and I'll be sure to give rep :)

Are you sure they didn't remake the first one?

Thanks for the vote.

Yeah, it's a sequel. They didn't do a remake of Superman, though I won't doubt they will someday.

I didn't like the original at all, the makeup was terrible and the acting was subpar. The original Night of the Living Dead I really enjoyed, and was shot well... but Dawn of the Dead, the zombies looked like they grabbed random people, covered them in flour, dressed them in torn clothing, and told them to act retarded.

I don't know whether Romero intended for it to be a comedy or a horror.
