Its not really used for anything but its a nice way to either thank someone for something or give them something for a post you agree with. You will get rep for helping people and posting good threads etc.

At the bottom left of every single post, the green plus sign, and the yellow danger sign.

The green plus sign is to give rep, currently the site only allows beneficial rep, which is weird. The yellow danger sign, is to report posts, for either flaming, spamming, trolling, etc, or just to ask a mod to delete a post or close your own thread.
