Should I be worried?

Don't know how much space is behind the 360 from this angle, but I wouldn't sit my controllers on top of the 360 like that, at least not on the vents anyway.

I currently have my 360 standing up and never had any overheating issues, can try that since space is a clear issue for you.

Sometimes I'll go over peoples houses and I'll see their 360's in the WORST setup ever. Down one the carpet, underneath the entertainment system. Or Having 3 other consoles on top of it. Or Covered in books, magazines and what not. You gatta let that thing breathe or it'll doom you.

And even thought you have a good amount of space, I'd still suggest moving the power brick someplace else. The TV still will be pumping out a lot of heat...

this is my setup for it. :)

Space looks good enough, but I also see you have some space available behind the dresser. I'd suggest pushing some of the cords down that space you have to allow for a bit of better airflow for the back vents.

Done. Hopefully it'll help.

I just can't figure out where to put the power brick now. Would it be better behind the Xbox rather than behind the TV?

have you tried blowing in the game cartridge?
fixes everything.

Indeed it does.

Alright, this is getting pretty bad now. I woke up this morning, turned on my Xbox, and it overheated. I waited a little while longer, and it happened again. Then, I did everything I could think of to help it out. I dusted it again, I dusted the area around it, I blew dust out of all the vents, I kept my ceiling fan on, I turned up the air conditioning so it'd be cooler, I tried it vertically, I tried it horizontally, I waited a matter of hours before turning it back on, and I even managed to move my power brick off of my dresser. I turned it back on a few minutes ago, and it still overheated. It never even felt hot. It doesn't even feel warm right now. What the hell is going on?

I'm all out of ideas then except get a new one. Sorry Necro. ):

Alright, now I'm really confused. I tested it again after several more hours, and it worked even when I put a game in. Nothing bad happened for the entire hour I was playing. It seems to just switch back and forth from overheating to working just fine over and over.

something i do which helps mine from overheating...
i have one of those USB laptop platforms outfitted with fans. whenever i play xbox i put the fans under it and plug them into a USB, system isn't in a very well-ventilated spot but the fans solved the problem (got a few flashing rings and have not since)

if you have one of those, it may be worth trying.

see this? cool to the touch, baby.

Definitely not. I've had it for too long.

When mine was out of warranty and it Red Ringed i sent it off for repair and paid the cost of that and recieved the free month of Gold membership which i gave my girlfriend. Was cheaper than purchasing a new one, but if for some reason it were to happen again id purchase a Slim one like the one i have upstairs.

My original got the red rings, I wrapped it in towels and let it overheat and it fixed. A technique my brother in law taught me from the web, I was like ..wtf..

Yes, yes it is. :) I used to have He-mans castle and the other Evil Guys castle and Purple tiger thing when I was a kid. Now I just have both the tigers. :)

When I was a kid I was waaay into He-man. Me and my best buddy used to play He-man all the time. I never got to be He-man though because my buddy happened to be named Adam so he thought he deserved to be He-man.

And who was I to argue? ITS THE SAME NAME! MAW GAWD!

3 rings of death.

Then how is that helpful?

Anyway, I've been making some progress with my Xbox. Eventually, it just started overheating even after leaving it off for days at a time. It was completely unusable. So, since my warranty already expired, I decided to open it up. Everything went smoothly, and I found a ton of dust inside, which I had expected after doing some more research. I blew it all out, but then I found the bigger problem. One of my fans is broken. Fortunately, I went in search of a pair of fans for sale online and found the correct one for $13 that's been cleaned and tested. Hopefully it will work. Wish me luck.
