The New Russian Army rifle.

For anybody whos russian or knows their guns, the AK-74 is the russian army's main rifle. Assault Rifles have come a long way in the last 3 decades, so post your ideas for what should replace it.

My suggestion would be the AK-107. Kalashnikov has improved the recoil from the previous designs and the black fiber-glass reinforced polymer is cheaper than the wood used on the 74. And it uses the 5.45 round, which is a bit lighter than the standard NATO rounda t the moment and is cheaper to make as its made in russia.

If you don't have a suggestion or anything to say, don't post.

Re: The New Russian Army rifle.

I say the AK is fine as is right now, the motherland needs to work on getting her tech up, damn this Cold War mentality we have of them.

Re: The New Russian Army rifle.

I just thought seeing as most of the leading countries are updating their rifles(the british changed to the SA80, the US is changing to the SCAR-L), I wanted to know if anybody had any suggestions. And I don't act like a gun phenatic, I simply have an interest in military firearms.

Re: The New Russian Army rifle.

6.5 Grendel is possibly the best assault rifle round ever created. It combines the knockdown power of 7.62X39(AK-47) with the range of the 223(M16, AR-10). Problem is since it is currently not used by any military or popular in the civilian market, its very expensive.

I think guns are useless wastes of scrap metal.

But that's just me.

Re: The New Russian Army rifle.

The reason the russians still us the AK-47 is because it's reliable, easy to use, and they have about a million surplus rifles. Not to mention the tonnes of spare ammunition they have.

Sure the 5.45 x 39 is cheaper but they have so much spare 7.62. The cost of the switch would be more than they would save.

Re: The New Russian Army rifle.

Um its the AK-74, not the 47. and the 74 uses 5.45mm. A lot of modern assault rifles don't use 7.62mm anymore due to it being too heavy.

You won`t be feeling the same when zombies finally break out. You know it`s inevitable.

I don`t know much about guns, but my friend is a gun nerd.

Re: The New Russian Army rifle.

The sheer amount of facepalming I have had to do since entering this thread is incredible. I would love to enter the discussion, but I would make everyone else look like blathering fools as far as knowledge of Russo-Soviet weaponry goes.
