Unethical

Not only didn't I get time off until the 24th (yeah, worked all up until Christmas) but they want me back the 28th, 29th and 30th before New Year's, too! Would you all hate me if I called in sick those three days?

Re: Unethical

I say don`t do it.
Then again, I`m not the one who has to work on these days, but still...
(my friend has to work on 31st until 22.00 so he can`t catch a train home, that sucks)

Re: Unethical

I sit at a customer support center taking calls from people who are ****ed off because their phones aren't working. While I do appreciate the vote of confidence, I do not save lives as part of my job. Won't really "leave a spot to fill", either.

And my boss has taken 24th-7th off. Douchebag.

dated a girl who was in that business, have a vague idea of what it entails.
**** it. i say let them all complain to some sucker who doesn't call in sick.
the people who call those places usually deserve to have their buttons pushed anyway.

Re: Unethical

I'm not even going to bother reading most of the stuff here. If that's what your job is like, f*ck it. It doesn't matter if you're there. Call in sick and have some fun during the Christmas/New Year season.

So let me see if I've got this straight. You take phone calls from people who are complaining that their phones are not working. Am I missing something here?

I only deal with uhm... "home phones"? Or whatever it is called in English. They still got mobile phones to call and bug me. And don't get me started on the old f*ckers who can't use a mobile phone so they send in their complaint by mail. Mail! What is this, the dark ages?!

Basically what I do is this: a customer calls in about their phone(s) being dead. I can then do some sort of high-tech analysis on their phone line to see if, for example, a tree has fallen on the cables. Then I can forward the issue to a technician who goes out and fix it. Now, the annoying part is that in 90% of the cases it isn't one such issue. Its either the customer's modem/phone(s) that are broken and blocking the line or something else that is the customer's responsibility. When you tell them this they get reeeaaaal ****y and start yelling. Dumb focks.

Re: Unethical

Honestly, that's just how working is in the real world. I have to work tomorrow on my birthday and sure I'm a little bummed but that's just how it is. If you can't handle working when your friends are partying, then maybe you should rethink your current position.

Thank you for beating me to that one.

The voices in my head, that'd be you guys, told me to call in sick.

YAY! I can be a voice in someone's head! When I didn't even say anything!

But yeah, I'dve told you to go. My library is closed for furlough days the 24th to the 3rd. And I can't make the time up. So my paycheck is half the damn size it usually is. And there you are losing money of your own volition.
