So, I've had crazy issues with my Xbox disc drive giving me annoying errors about unrecognized discs and telling me to open the tray. This has gone on for 2+ years and has been getting worse and worse. So today I thought "**** it, I'm gonna fix this". My main thought was a dirty laser lens. Instead of doing the logical thing and actually figuring it out, I decided to just tear it open as I do when I have to do regular cleaning maintenance (Microsoft wants 100 bucks out of my pocket just to clean the thing), and this time remove the disc drive. Lucky for me the thing had a whopping 4 screws on it so I just unscrewed those and found that little lens thing. Popped a Q-tip into my glass cleaner and shined it up all nice-like and gave the rest of the thing a little dusting and put it all together. Expecting to have my Xbox either no longer read discs at all or asplode in my face, I turned it on. Guess what? It ****ing worked. I feel like a champion. I know it isn't all that much of a biggy, but I just toppled a problem that has plagued me for 2 years.

That's actually pretty cool. Well done, brah! I ended up breaking my PS2 whilst attempting to fix the infamous disc read error problem. Mind you, I didn't bother with the unscrewing part, I just tore away at the DVD drive and ended up severing the IDE strip. I didn't think it was important at the time...

You're' still my hero, though.

I just blow into the tray, myself.

That used to happen to me alot with discs, I'd turn it on the disc is unreadable. But one day I pushed the turn on button with my boner and I haven't had the problem since.

I remember that, my PS1 and PS2 both had the same issue too. Made Christmas day such fun... disc read error for 3 hours before I could play any games.

I remember those days! I don't know why, but the only games that my PS2 would play - prior to being ripped apart - was the original Timesplitters. It would play that game absolutely every time and without fail, but there's only so many times you can play that 5-minute-long single-player before you get bored. :(

How I wish I'd known that 3 years ago...:/

Sometimes my disc Drive doesn't like to eject. But that's about all the problems I've had with it.

It just likes the feeling of that big throbbing disc inside of it.

I don't blame it.

But it's usually empty when it won't eject.. :|

Seems like it is traumatized by some past event, then.

Did you do naughty things to it's special area?

Of course I did, I do naughty things to ALL my electronics.
