We don't want Elder Scrolls

I've been hearing a lot of discussion on Fable III improvments and I've heard about character creation...
Alright. I'm going to give you my opinion on what Fable should be. When I first played Fable (go o my thread "The Dog..." to see a detailed explanation of when I first played Fable) it was simple. The majority of RPG's are complex going into detail such as attributes, skills, etc. etc.
This is not what Fable should be. I've looked at many games now and they are all trying to be similar. They over exaggerate things such as free-roam and we even have free roam FPS (such as Far Cry 2 *not saying its a bad game*) So I'm trying to say I don't want Fable to become one of these sheep games. So, back to character creation it definitley reminds me of ES IV:Oblivion's failed attempt, and no matter how much sliders you have and how many different combinations there are you CANNOT make a cool looking character on that game. But thats not my point. In Fable the characters should always be the same small boy/girl at the start and as you progress over the game you change the characters look. I think this is a good idea, and with things like this holding ground in the game, Fable will continue to be a very unique and great game. :D

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

i see where your coming from and agree with most of what you said except the part about freeroam, yea a lot of games are doing it now but thats because it makes the games replayability and overall fun factor go up bc you can just **** around whenver you want, thats what most people want. dont get me wrong i still love none freeroam games like halo and call of duty, left4dead but when i just feel like killin a whole bunch of people i put in fable2 or gta4. i never played elder scrolls, mostly bc it seemed too serious for me, i like the goofyness of fable and mixed with the serious plot line...idk what im talking about anymore but yea, the point is freeroam seems to be the future of gaming, i cant see it going away at all but i would like to see a game do it differently, i dont know how but in a way to stand out from the crowd...like crackdown, that game was more fun just to **** around than to play the actual story

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Yeah, But games like Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, which I thouroghly enjoyed but is now turning into a freeroam game: Splinter Cell Convition, which I find is stupid and way too risky and has changed Sam Fisher (the protaganist) into a completley different character, like changing Han Solo into Obi Wan. Yeah, exactley.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Actually, you can make a character like YOU want them to look like. (In ES:IV)
Why would you not want Fable III to be a game where you can be COMPLETELY free, even though that's what an RPG is about. It's being able to do YOUR own choices that effect the world around you, for the better or worse.

And why would you want everyone to start out the same? Then that would make everyone else's characters boring, because it would offer no customization. I see where your going, everyone starts out the same, but I think that you should be able to customize your Parents and inherit some of the traits you give 'em.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

I don't want full customisation at the start because the way Fable has done it from the original should stay with that same uniqueness. As you progress you grow with the character, compared to ES where it feels like you are playing a character that is not really yours.
The big problem is not many games have X-Factors (uniqueness) and it's not graphics, gameplay, or polishing that we really look for as Gamers, but the unique something about a game the seperates it from the rest of the games.

That's kind of... Backwards in my eyes. A default character specifically doesn't feel like your own since it's just there for everyone, while making your own character would let you choose specific things straight from the get-go.

Though, character customization in Fable is a bad idea in general, since there is only one race to choose from (human that is), you can level all stats over time to the max, and classes are non-existent, not to mention you can change hair style/color, tattoos, makeup and everything else at any point you'd like.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Sliders just sounds like ti would be a pain in the arse with good/evil morphs etc, but if we had different faces or facial features to choose from, that would be better.
And also, BAWWWWWW ELDER SCROLLS IS VASTLY SUPERIOR TO FABLE AND BAWWWWWWW AND MORE BAAAWWWWWW
If I could swap my boyfriend for some kind of incarnation of Morrowind, I totally would.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Elder Srolls (Morrowind and Oblivion) were both very enjoyable and impressive. About making characters, its true that 99% of them are ugly and weird, I had only managed to make 2 good looking and sexy characters, a Dark Elf and a Reguard.

But I have enjoyed Fable2 more than these games.
So ya, Fable should stick to its principles - it does not matter if they are lame or not and if they need improvment, because its these principles which the game started off with which makes Fable what it is.

+rep to the thread starter and +rep for the peoples posting their opinions.

 now lets have sax

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

In my opinion, a mix of the two main opinions would be a really cool aspect in a future game....
Like....Say you start a new game... You customize a child character. That's it. Customizing the start-off kid would be really cool, because not only does it add customization, it would be extremely interesting to see your child grow into an adult from those original physical attributes. This way, you could play a little kid with a big nose and lanky arms(just an example), and watch those attributes grow as your Hero does.
Just my three cents.

Yeah, I agree. Elder Scrolls > Fable any day.

Customization is what an RPG is about, and limiting that won't make people go, "Wow, that game is different, lets go buy it!"

Fable 2 had too much of a linear storyline, and not enough side quests to keep me occupied 24/7 like TES:IV did.

Even though The Elder Scrolls 4 and 3 came out years ago, they are vastly superior to Fable in all ways.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

You say the RPG elements of ES added replayability but i find it very difficult to make myself play both Morrowind and Oblivion yet I can keep playing Fable TLC (and Fable II *but not as much*) over and over because it gives such a great experience. I got a very good experience off Morrowind when I was young but Fable always wins. Nevermind we all have different tastes.

But as the default character evolves as you play in the game it feels like your character and in the end it is unique and different from everyone elses (though sometimes with the limited amount of clothes/armour they arent) So I strongly disagree the customization is a bad idea, and this is exactly what I want to say WE DON'T WANT ELDER SCROLLS (now I dont actually mean that we don't want Bethesda making more ES's it's just I don't want Fable changing it's principles and being another copycat game *in case my point hasn't got across yet*):P

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

But your saying that they shouldn't allow endless customization, one of the things that makes a good RPG good.
And, to your statement, "You can't make your character look cool!"
Look what I did...

Watch out. The pictures are pretty big.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Yes. That's modded though. Imagine if you could Fable II???

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Mod Fable II? I don't think it would be on par with modding Oblivion.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Still Modding Oblivion isn't going to help. I even put OOO on and it hardly made me want to play it.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Customization at character creation wouldn't make a difference in Fable. Your character starts as a kid, and by the time they grow up, they look completely different anyway. It's how you play during this time that changes their appearance - that's one of the main points of the game.

If Fable III is turned into something completely different, where you start as an adult and have to live with that character for the whole game, then choosing how they look would only be a good thing.

Re: We don't want Elder Scrolls

Why would Fable need Character Creation? Theres a great array of clothes, dyes, makeup, hair, etc, to the point where it just isn't necessary.

It's the type of mods you put on it that makes you want to play.
If you choose the wrong mods, it makes you hate the game.
See, Oblivion has almost an unlimited array of mods;
If your in to blood and gore, there's Deadly Reflex.
If your in to Immersion, there's Immersive UI, towns, and sounds.
If your in to making your character look freakin' awesome, there's Ren's Beauty Pack, and tons of armor and weapon mods.

cause, you know, they're role playing games. you make your own character, tell your own story, etc.

i'm not saying fable should be that. just that it's not an RPG. and that's okay. it's a fun game. i wouldn't change it to make it like oblivion. i already played oblivion. too much work sometimes.

hey, my oblivion characters all look pretty cool, thank you very much. it's just... really, really hard to make a good looking character. you wanna know how many hours it took in the face creation screen to make a redgaurd with white skin and even skin-tone? you try it sometime. it's not easy.
