Why Microsoft, Why?

Same goes for the 360. Unless you bought it used so you got your hands on one of the broken first gen consoles, they don't go belly-up unless you somehow mistreat them.

I've never had any overheating issues from either of my two 360s being vertical since purchasing my first one 4 years ago, plus I have no room to place it horizontally. For something not meant to go vertical, my first sure lasted a good length of time being designed for both positions (and it still works fine, just the tray & laser went bad).

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

Well, well, well. I just decided to check my warranty status on Xbox.com and gueeeeeess what? My warranty ran out on March 15, 2010! This is the second ****ing time that my xbox has done this just after the warranty runs out. What. The. ****.

I'm starting to get annoyed at these little coincidences. All I want to do is play a bit of Fable 2. That is all.

****in' Microsoft. I shouldn't have to cope with a console on a "hit and miss reliability".

Return it in anyway, They shouldn't **** you if your warranty ran out only a handful of days ago. Dark Drakan's Xbox 360 got the RROD and his warranty was about 10 or 15 days gone.. i forget which, they sent him a box anyway and fixed it up better than it was before for free.

Or did he have to pay for shipping... hmm.

Yeah it said it was out of warranty then i listed the issue as RROD and the warranty status changed and it was all repaired and sent back to me free of charge. It was also posted to Germany for the repair as the UK doesnt have a repair centre here.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

I bought my 360 when it came out, I've left in on 2 nights in a row and don't use a intercooler, and mine has never had ANY problems.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

^ Give it time, I fear mine is nearing its end, Its getting pretty hot and I have it out in the open, sitting on a cookie cooler for max ventilation, And in my experience intercoolers have and expiration date. I need a new one, the originals killed xboxes if they got a short and the new ones just get tired after a couple years.

My advice for cooling, is get an old intercooler that plugs into the xbox power cord, cut off the bottom and wire the fans to a 12 volt adapter plug. Noisy as hell, sounds like a d*mn 747 but it keeps the xbox cooler than the new ones, the fans are easy to clean, and seem to last longer. I gave that one to my cousin because I thought my new one would be better. Wish I hadn't.

get a 200$ arcade and put your old hard drive on it

That's what I did a few weeks ago, a much better solution than paying for a repair that costs almost as much.
