I'd rep you, but I don't want to inflate your ego anymore.

So I'll settle for a less than three: <3

Re: Depression

Not that I've really been involved in the conversation up til now, but being on the subject of depression, I read various comments from different people and can't help but ponder at the idea of suicide. So I would like to inquire every one about suicide, their experiances with it personally or not, the reasoning for suicide no matter how illogical the thinking behind it is, and finally what people who are suicidal hope for in the after math of suicide. I know every one's depression has varied, but regardless I would like someone to share their knowlegde and opinions about suicide.

Well, to throw some beans out there, I've tried to commit suicide. Twice. I have the scars on my arms to prove it.

Looking back on, it was effing stupid of me to even consider it. My life is really no different now than it was then and I'm still content with living. Granted, I was recently diagnosed bi-polar and am now on medication to treat it.

Depression is a legitimate medical condition and can be treated. Seek help. There are suicide hot lines, doctors, experts who are there for the treating of depression.

If you're even so much as considering suicide, stop everything and get help. That is not normal; don't trick yourself into believing that it is.

I meant that I wonder about how suicidals think, not consider it myself. Thanks for the advice though. This forum really just reminded me of the people I've known that have lost their battles to depression. I want to understand so to give help. Life is too valuable to cut short.

Re: Depression

Then say so. The way you originally put it gave a very disturbing hint that you were contemplating killing yourself.

Re: Depression

Suicide usually lingers into most depressed peoples minds, thinking that them ending there life would stop them being depressed and leave the world.
But most of them don't consider what it will do to other people.
Thats probably the only reason why i'm still alive because i had to think about my friends and family.

Re: Depression

Personally.... I think suicide should be legal. People should have a right to take their own life, should they choose, Lazarus Long style.

That is not to say though, that other avenues should not be explored properly first. People with a medically sound brain should be able to do what they want with their own lives, euthenasia or otherwise..

As to my own experiences with the subject:

My uncle committed suicide a few years ago after what I presume was a battle with drugs and depression by throwing himself infront of a train.

Another one of my uncles (coincidently, the first uncles younger brother) effectively euthenised himself a month or so ago by refusing treatment for his failing kidneys.

BaBOUSHka! He's gone!

Anyway, I don't really have a problem with suicide. In soem situations it's a waste, but why should it be anyone's business but your own?

Re: Depression

My last word on the depression subject.

When you think about it, it's really only teens that suicide. And it's not ONLY depression. It's other things, mainly mental disorders. Why worry about depression, when there are other mental disorders out there?

Are you on crack man? Teens do suicide, but to say it's "really only teens that suicide" is completely ignorant. 100% of my suicide experiences have been people in their late thirtys, from completely different reasons.

Because depression is serious o_O

Re: Depression

Teens might be the ones who go on and on and on and on about suicide in some sort of attention seeking way, but as Arseface says, they do not have the monopoly on topping themselves.

Someone serious about suicide will quite often be the last person you'd expect - they won't complain all the time, they won't walk around with a face like a wet weekend; how often do the family and friends of a recent suicide victim seem shell-shocked largely because there was no obvious indication that the person in question was even thinking of suicide, let alone actually going through with it.

And depression is very serious - any chemical imbalance in the brain has far-reaching consequences. Depression is the lead cause of suicides, not other mental illnesses - depression is able to be subtle if need be whereas someone racing around town on the back of a household broom thinking they are King Arthur is pretty obviously unwell and usually gets the help they need fairly promptly. What depression does to your whole state of mind is dangerous and destructive if left to its own devices - but often being depressed means you tend not to go and get help either, because you are too stuck in a black cloud to even get up in the morning, let alone make an appointment to see a doctor who may or may not take you seriously.

Re: Depression

Yes. Life is short enough as it is. Why throw it all away? And peopel forget that the night is always darkest before the dawn. The rain will pass.

Yes. They should be thinking of their friends and family before they hurt them by killing themselves (if any are left).

Suicide legal? I think it has always been legal. I mean they can't stop you doing it. You just have to make sure that you do it right!

However, personally I believe suicide is a sure fire ticket to hell.
