And a long time ago there was this little "rep circle" going on. Some members would just give each other rep for everything.

But it is a way to show appreciation to someone who has done something that helps or is meaningful. A post saying "lol thx" doesn't really cut it.

If we move to a different forum software (IPB) then we'll probably use their reputation system which is much better. There's also a 'Thanks!' option for each individual post with IPB.

My routine when logging in was to first check if anyone repped me.

It was almost obsessive because of the lack of anything else interesting going on here.

And I can't say that I'm a fan of the Thanks! button on other forums. Seems to get in the way.

The function didn't mean much to any Staff Members because they already had infinite Rep, but to members it had almost a completely different use.

Well, according to my benchmarks, it turns out the reputation system isn't nearly as resource-hungry as I had initially thought. I'll add a poll and you lovely bunch can vote as to whether it makes a return or not. A quick note: If it does return, I'd love to see if there is a straight-forward way of turning the old 'rep pips' into an experience bar.

Vague, I know, but if you lot vote for it to return then it'll be turned into something more RPG-ish. Cheers!

It has never been something that I have ever personally liked to any extent, but the community loves it. If it isn't a drain on the resources, I suppose I could give it a 'yes' vote, and I think it would be interesting to see the reputation system evolve a bit.
