Re: Rep System Disabled - Possibly Temporarily

I'm leery of the - sign bit. As I recall, I first saw it phrased this way by someone here-- if you allow members to give negative rep, they tend to just give it to anyone they disagree with. Sure, you can have the same thing with positive rep, but maybe not quite as much.

And, well... negative rep is just mean.

Kinda wish it would go away and we would get a thank you button.

I am content with the way things are now if Steve wills it though, we don't need such things if it is a hassle or hard.

Oh I'm sure they're doing a lot more than that. Droded's even making record speed on that bike.

It was only enhanced by this post.

When I think about it, how often will people use a "Thank you" button? Seems a bit useless and can only be used when people are either in need of help or if they were corrected. The only reason they would be 'better' would be because they add no permanent record to how 'helpful' you are and thus there would be no reason for people to spam it on eachother.

The Rep system on the other hand can be used in far more situations, examples include helpful posts, posts that make you laugh, posts which you agree with, posts with impressive artwork, posts with impressive fan fiction etc.

However, the only way that the system would be enjoyable to all is if everyone actually agrees to use it the way it was designed to be used - by actually adding rep to posts I mentioned above. I don't mean to say that you should go crazy adding rep to every post, but do it slightly more frequently than you did before. (I hardly saw anyone adding rep in the recent weeks before it was taken away)

This way it gives members a reason to post well - instead of being a grouch with no rep they could be a happy helpful member of the community.

*ahem* Steve has requested that everyone +rep this post to test if the system is fully operational. Thank you for your time!

Not that I would prefer a thank-you button, but I don't really see any difference. Thanks for making me laugh, thanks for posting that info, thanks for saying something I agree with, thanks for sharing your art, thanks for sharing your fanfiction.

There wouldn't really be any difference. Though, thinking about it, I kinda start to change my mind. If there were a nice little button labeled "thanks," do you think we'd have people confused about what it was, like we do with rep?

On the other hand, it was Steve who mentioned doing a exp-bar-styled rep thing, wasn't it? That'd be cool.

Oh. Steve stripped away the bars for numbers...

It's like he invited us all into one room and told us to drop our pants, and Sharon's over there in the corner laughing at everyone.

I'm rather small. But to my defense, I haven't been here as long as a lot of the members here.

And yet I'm seen as somewhat of a veteran. o:

Re: Rep System Disabled - Possibly Temporarily

Bring the bars back, they looked better and made Rep more mysterious.

But now that the numbers are here, I can safely say after comparing that I just got owned in the Rep department.

Re: Rep System Disabled - Possibly Temporarily

I think something like John suggested, or the original dots-beads-pips-tabs-thingies would be better than straight numbers.

Or, I don't know, give us yet another title and match it up to Renown levels?

Re: Rep System Disabled - Possibly Temporarily

I'm not so sure about JohnDoe's idea, that would only be better if there was something to be gained from filling up one of the experience bars. (Apart from a brand new experience bar you can fill! Yay!)

Also, they look a little bland.
