So,I was wandering what are you guys listening too,the greatest band ever, the best song you heard, the best musician, music today, discuss music, that wonderful thing...

Well,in my opinion the best band ever is Led Zeppelin,I simply love them, but the best song I have ever heard is American Pie-Don McLean-There is so much history contained within that song.

Discuss away...

Re: Spirit of Music

My personal favorite band, who many here are probably aware due to my constant ranting/fanboyism is Radiohead. They wrote one of the most beautiful and sad songs I have ever heard called I Will.
Which is by no coincidence off of my favorite album by them, which is found in my user title.

Other favorites of mine are Beck who can amazingly take any 2+ genres of music and make seemless transitions from one to the other in his songs.
This one combines folk and hip hop, and even has an 8 bit music section in it.
Beck - Novacane
his lyrics are also completely random, but they fit together and rhyme perfectly. it's like a whole new approach to songwriting.

My third band, whom is criticized by many people on this website, is The White Stripes. They have 2 members and record in a style that sounds extremely rugged and old school. Produce a really "raw" sound these guys.
White Stripes - Blue Orchid
and they also write more bluesy acoustic songs.
White Stripes - Effect and Cause

I have many other bands I like, Led Zeppelin being one of them. I'll save this post from being longer than it already is with those 3 being said.

Re: Spirit of Music

Being an audiophile, I myself cannot survive without music (well, not easily anyway). I listen to pretty much everything with the exception of Disney's teen Pop, Post-90s Mainstream, and Country (not including Bluegrass). Though I listen to just about everything, I'm mostly fond of the different sub-genres of Electronic music; Downtempo, Progressive trance, Left field, Minimal, Drum & Bass, Ambient, Dark Ambient, Lo-Fi, Glitch, 8-bit, 16-bit, Breakbeat, Disco & Nu-Disco, Post-Rock, Retro Lounge, Synthpop, Electronica, New Wave, Trip-Hop, etc.

I do enjoy a large amount of 70s & 80s Japanese Pop as well, which I have my aunt to thank for. I love classical music as in symphonies/orchestras, but I have to be in a very relaxed mood for it most of the time with the exception of the more upbeat and in-your-face material.

I listen to music almost any chance I get, even if I have to hum it myself or tap my feet. My collection is still growing as well with the increasing knowledge of what's out there everyday; 2,042 albums in my collection so far.

Currently listening to the K-Pax Soundtrack on CD through my audiophile setup, love my Sennheisers.

Re: Spirit of Music

probably the best song lyrics i have ever heard. it's a punk classic by the clash.
Death or Glory - The Clash
Now every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the
world
And ends up making payments on a sofa or a girl
Love 'n' hate tattooed across the knuckles of his hands
Hands that slap his kids around 'cause they don't understand how

Death or glory becomes just another story
Death or glory becomes just another story

'N' every gimmick hungry yob digging gold from rock 'n' roll
Grabs the mike to tell us he'll die before he's sold
But I believe in this-and it's been tested by research
he who ****s nuns will later join the church

Death or glory becomes just another story
Death or glory becomes just another story

MUSICAL INTERLUDE

Fear in the down sex
they say lie low
You say ok
don’t wanna play a show
No other thinking
was it death or glory now
Playing the blues of kings
sure looks better now

Death or glory just another story
Death or glory just another story

From every dingy basement on every dingy street
every dragging handclap over every dragging beat
That's just the beat of time-the beat that must go on
If you’ve been trying for years we already heard your song

Death or glory becomes just another story
Death or glory just another story

Gonna march a long way
Fight a long time
Get to travel over mountains
Got to travel over seas
We're gonna fight your brother
We're gonna fight til you lose
We're gonna raise trouble
We're gonna raise hell
We're gonna fight your brother
We're gonna raise hell

Death or glory becomes just another story
Death or glory becomes just another story

Death or glory just another story
Death or glory becomes just another story

Re: Spirit of Music

My favorite bands are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Necrophagist, The Beatles, and Job For A Cowboy.

Necrophagist is probably the most amazing band ever. Their guitar work is extremely complex, I can only play like, 2 of their songs, sloppily, and not even the entire things. I think their best songs are Stabwound, Seven, Only Ash Remains, and Mutilate the Stillborn.

I really cannot stand any of the new "rock" music today. Jeez, it's like the Simpsons. Depreciated over time.

It also ticks me off when people look at me all funny when I tell them what I listen to. Hey, you asked, if you can't handle it then don't.

But yeah. <3 Necrophagist.

Crap, I still can't (don't know how) post youtube videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHozn0YXAeE

;) That's not post-90s, it's from 1997 and I've always liked that song.

To post a YT vid:

Code:
[noparse][youtube]4DhReNRPm9s[/youtube][/noparse]

Only copy & paste the jumble of letters & numbers after the "v="

Some of what I normally listen to, I hope there are people here who know about this good stuff. :(

Say Scott, that Puchi stuff sounds pretty good! Have you ever listened to Boards of Canada or Portishead?

Yep, I know them very well, more so BoC. Puchi's material is difficult to get a hold of, they ought to get with a new active label and produce some more material.

I'd say my favorite song by BoC is '84 Pontiac Dream, it's so mellow that I could just drift off to it.

You ever heard of Bullitnuts and Leggo Beast? :shifty:

My other favorites that you may know of would be:

Tosca
Aphex Twin
Global Communication
Baby Mammoth
Govinda
Fila Brazillia
The Album Leaf
Nor Elle
Loess
Lemongrass
Aspen

If you haven't heard of them, then you need to check them out. :D

Led Zep, Beatles, Clapton, Bowie, Stones, The Who.

And doing my jazz course has put me into contact with such greats as Armstrong, Ellington, Dizzy, Miles, Parker, and various others.
