Re: Spirit of Music

I prefer Megadeth over Metallica myself. Bands I like besides the aforementioned: The Who, REM, The Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down, Anthrax, Rush, Iron Maiden, Manic Street Preachers, Queen, and Pearl Jam.

Probably missed a few.

And on a side not, droded, Tom Jones is awesome. I totally forgot about that song.

EDIT: Just finished that song DS, and I can't say I get it because my speakers are on low volume so I could barely hear what he was saying, but I like the way it sounds. I actually like it. A lot. For some reason...

I have a question that I'm sure no one else really cares about, but are "christian/gospel," "gospel/religious," "christian," and "inspirational" really genres of music or does it just refer to the lyrics of the song? Or does that make a genre of music?

To me, lyrics don't really make a "Genre" the music playing and the way it's sung depicts the type of music it is. Correct if I'm wrong please :).
I don't actually know - I guess people would call it a genre in the sense of categorizing it. That's how they do it in music shops unless it's POD or Demon Hunter which are filed under the varying degrees of metal.

I think Gospel would count as a genre because it is a recognisable sound/style in itself, regardless of the lyrics.

I thought people were catching on that I was posting musical jokes.

Apart from the first post of course.

haha, i was literally just about to comment on how no one seemed to notice. that various artists comment got a grin, and the hipster joke made me lol.

And also, to everyone who's been talking about Metallica (Tsuyu and DS...but mainly Tsuyu) A) people don't need to say "in my opinion" honestly it just makes the statement less in your face. if they are saying Metallica sucks it's obviously their opinion.

B) Metallica does suck. Any band could be them if they all grew power mustaches to look like harly davidson loving d-bags, and purchased a gas powered lawn mower as a vocalist. their song writing for the most part is rubbish (nothing else matters being the only song i find tolerable), and i can't for the life of me stand how much people like them. it's even worse than those people who get "iron maiden 4 life" tattoos and wear iron maiden tshirts every day.

C) I would agree that Nirvana is a bit overrated. Part of their fame came from the media attention that Kurt Kobains death brought in. But at the same time, you have to appreciate what they created in the musical world. So why are they so popular? Well, look at a similar band of a similar time: Sublime. They're great, sure! they got famous from combining genres into a new sound, and their visionary lead vocalist/guitarist died of heroin overdose. they spawned a very obscure list of musicians: Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Slightly Stoopid, The Pietasters. Nirvana spawned many more main stream bands like Puddle of Mudd (yeck, those guys). people learned how to turn Kobains vocals into something tame but growly and therefore successfully castrated the genre. now Nirvana is acknowledged not only by people with good musical tastes, but also by tasteless people who enjoy the music of Puddle of Mudd.

Once you turn something good into a formula, it goes to ****. Little to no exceptions.

unlike metallica, whom nothing good came from.

Re: Spirit of Music

Ignorant much, Cheez? That's the dumbest/poorest statement as to why someone dislikes Metallica I've ever heard. At least you could've gone with "Megadeth is better" or "I hate new Metallica!".

Weak.

cutting out the fancy stuff, it's weak to hate them because A) their song writing is rubbish and
B) they're lead vocalist can't sing?

how is that a poor excuse to dislike a band?

and for the record, megadeth is far lower than metallica will ever be. ever.

How about the part where you said all it takes is a mustache to be like them?

F*ck it, I'm closing this thread before I'll go and do something stupid.

Tsuyu, I love you.. but no. There is no reason for this thread to be closed and everyone else has to suffer because you have a difference in opinion with some of the members..

I'm reopening, it's not that difficult to just ignore people or the thread entirely. :(

Re: Spirit of Music

@ Gikoku - until a few years ago I always thought the lyrics to that song were:

Keep on to the post office
Don't stop til you get enough.

Obviously that was completely wrong

RADIOHEAD SUCK! olololololol etc. I dunno.

Re: Spirit of Music

Once there was this kid who
Got into an accident and couldn't come to school
But when he finally came back
His hair had turned from black into bright white
He said that it was from when
The car had smashed so hard

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

No.

Thread stays closed.

It is a train-wreck waiting to happen since some people can't express their opinions without being douchebags.
