Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

Oh yeah one thing I hate aout metal now is that theres SO many Sub-Categories for it now.. I think for Metal all there needs to be is "Metal" - In general Metal. "Death Metal" - Hardcore Metal And.. Thats pretty much it.. Theres TOO many! ARH!

I more of a.. Metallica, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, Blue Oyster Cult, The Animals, Beethoven, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Beetles, The Prodigy, Modest mouse.. Yeah All that.

No Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne as a solo were Classic Metal.. yes they are not screaming or thrashing ther guitars but classic metal was like tht.. ACDC are classic rock tht aint metal.. KIss and Twisted Sister were more glam but had elements of metal..... Wel th\ts my opinion

Rock with "elements of metal" is Hard Rock. Metal as a genre wasn't coined until the late 70's or early 80's.

Yeah, I wouldn't really consider glam metal to be much of a metal... I honestly don't know how some bands are classified as metal, but hey, whatever. I really don't see why there are so many sub categories anyways. Oh yes, and dont' forget about Norwegian Death Metal. :lol:

And just 'cause we're talkin' 'bout Iron Maiden now, I still think The Number of The Beast album was best. It has Hallowed be Thy Name. Best song ever.

^ The Prodigy are my one of my top bands, Saw them Live. Was the best SHow I have ever seen in my life! SO GOOOOOOD!!! :D

^^ Got my tickets booked to go see them on 19th June in Newcastle. Gonna be absolutely mental tbh. Looking forward to Japanese Popstars as well, that should be very interesting.

Oh and I love it when people get all genre classificated (yes I just made that word up) about their music, makes me laugh heartily at them.

Around 1983-1984 I believe, thats just off the top of my head though. What do you classify as elements of metal btw, lots of palm muted shredding with pinch harmonics? Speed solos? Heavy riffing?

Megadeth anybody?

My Favourite Punk band is 'The Damned'; I have Many Exclusive and Autographed singles from them; which my Dad left me when he Died;
I have a 'Bootleg' album form a gig the 'Sex Pistols' did in a pub in May 1976; which is Very Cool as it sounds like there were only about 20 people there :);
I also liked bands such as 'The Clash'; 'The Buzzcocks' and 'The Jam'; before they became 'Main Stream New Wave Pop';
I also liked some USA Punk; such as 'The Dead Kennedys' 'The Dead Boys' and 'The Ramones';
I have around 200 Punk singles on Vinyl in the attic; but have grown up listening to first of all 'Rave/Acid House'; 'Hard House' and then 'Techno';
I used to DJ Live before I became Unwell; and now I am a Bedroom DJ using Software programs such as 'Reason' and 'Ableton'

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

^Black Sabbath would have been Metal back in the day, but times have changed, and it has now sadly become classic rock. Ozzy and Dio are still Both considered Metal though

I terms of punk, i like minor threat, black flag, ramones, the damned, the saints, dead kennedys, sex pistols, yeah, you know 'em all anyway

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

Sabbath was never ever metal. Never has been, never will be. Ozzy's solo career is not to be confused with the old school Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath is as much metal as the Rolling Stones are metal.

Dio on the other hand is one of those bands that were founded during the "rise of metal" during the late '70s and early 80's. Dio was founded in '82.

Dum-dumdi-dum - HOLY DIVER! You've been down too long in the midnight sea...

You know what I never got? Tool... All of there songs seem to have the same riff.

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

Late Black Sabbath/Ozzy's solo career =/= Old School (aka good) Black Sabbath.

Since Black Sabbath has been along for so long, they were active when metal as a genre was coined and naturally it influenced their later works. However, the "good" songs from Black Sabbath is pure and awesome (Hard) Rock.

Mm yeh well i think hardcore umm err suffers the same problem, metalcore (which i hate), post-harcdore, rapcore, straight-edge core (something along the lines of that), etc. The funny thing is that apart from a few like metalcore alot of them are just the lyrics, like there would be some hardcore genre for Straight Edge people and then there would be another genre for skinheads... The only difference is that they have different beliefs and aing different genres.

Thank you for self-pwning yourself, James. Saved me the trouble.

That was quite funny.. I think Sabbath face the same problem The Clash do, except for wrong way around. A boy was listening to some of the more recent Clash calling it punk, i had a massive argument with him over it, i mean he was calling London Burning not punk and Sex Pistols not the real punk! Fortunately i proved it to him that he was wrong. And the Clash were punk and then went poppy. Ozzy faces the same thing hard rock then metal (with Dio and Ozzy solo)... So people then classify all the songs metal, as The Clash's songs are always classified punk.

Also i forget to mention did anyone like Echo and The Bunnymen
