We've got a New York and an Old York - two parts of one city - York (obviously).

We have a Cairo down somewhere on the Mississipii, and there's somewhere else called Little Egypt (unless it's the same place).

We also have one of the many Alexandrias, down in Virginia. And bunches more. When you're a country (okay, a continent. Two continents) of immigrants you tend to end up with lots of native place-names combined with lots of places named for old homes combined with lots of descriptive names. And ones named for old dead Europeans. Or old dead Americans.
