iTouch Question

In the top left corner of the iTouch screen you see the word "iPod" and the amount of WiFi bars next to it. Is there a way to change it so it says something else rather than just iPod?

Skotekal is correct your touch has to be jailbroken first. Jailbreaking itself isn't illegal right now, so I think it's ok to say I have one on here and am very familiar with how it works. If you use a jailbroken iPod touch or iPhone for illegal activities, jailbreaking itself still remains legal, it's only your activity which is illegal. In other words, if you use pirated programs, then the acquisition and use of pirated programs is illegal, not the fact that jailbreaking permits it. Your talking about a type of springboard theme though and most of those are free, but to do that you need your touch to be jailbroken, which is what Skotekal had said to do above.

Re: iTouch Question

Cydia is the best one. My Jailbreak came with RockApp though, so I get both.

But you can't Jailbreak if you've updated to 3.1.3. Use Blackra1n if you've got a lower version.

Re: iTouch Question

I miss the old installer. And the old Jailbreaking setup. It made you work for it. Now it is just point, click, done.

And Cydia is just the whole "store" for apps. Stuff like RockApp and Icy are the same thing, but can have plus sides. Like Icy is much much faster, but you miss a lot of stuff like descriptions and it doesn't look nearly as nice. But, efficiency over aesthetics.

And it ****es me off how they try and charge money for an emulator that works on 3.0 and up firmware. It is the only time that I condone cracked apps is to get these. It sucks that most people jailbreak simply for free apps. And which why installous is baaaaaaaaaaad.

Along with installer app, I had to restore my itouch twice because of that. >>

Also Sean, Rock and Cydia have pretty much the same things to download in the way of themes, but each does have some that the other doesn't have so what arseface said, get both of them. Rock is faster than Cydia too and you will need Winterboard to apply the themes.

Re: iTouch Question

We have to be careful here. Discussing software piracy is against the rules.

Re: iTouch Question

I didn't think Installer was considered a pirated app, is it? It's news to me.. After you buy Installer of course for $7.00 it just allows you fast package restore. If you ever had to wait on a new iPhone firmware update because you didn`t want to re-install all those not from the App Store apps. My mistake if I crossed the line.

Re: iTouch Question

You can add sources to Cydia which provide you with cracked apps, but they don't come with Cydia. Sort of.

Re: iTouch Question

Cydia comes with the basic repo sources. Really, they're the only ones I ever really needed. But I add more just because. But yeah, you can add more on. Hackulous even has a waring message when you try to install the repo warning about pirated software.

Re: iTouch Question

Okay so I jailbroke it, so far all I have are the default apps, Cydia and NES. I backed up all my files though before I jailbreaked it, so can I restore my iPod, like put all my music and files back onto my iTouch without taking away the jailbreak?

Re: iTouch Question

No if your restore the ipod it returns it back to how it was when you bought it. Which is useful if you break your ipod and need to send it in for repairs.

Re: iTouch Question

Okay, just making sure. Glad I backed up all my stuff then, besides, I have an iPod Nano so I have all my music on there. I'm set :) Thanks guys!

Yes. You can resync the iPod through iTunes and it will put all your music and store-bought apps onto the iPod without removing the jailbreak.

Re: iTouch Question

Do I hit restore from "Sean's iTouch"(before jailbreak) or do I just make it another one and sync all the music and apps from the library without restoring?

All you do is just sync all the items you want. So music, movies and apps will be back on your iPod. If you use the restore feature, you WILL lose the jailbreak, but not if you sync.

Okay, thanks Skotekal :) great help.
