Spielberg In Talks To Pick Up Halo Movie?

Written Saturday, August 08, 2009 by Dan Webb

Movie site, IESB, is reporting that Steven Spielberg is currently in talks to pick up Stuart Beattie's "Halo: The Fall of Reach" script to produce himself, under his Dreamworks umbrella. The site writes ...

"Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie's take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dreamworks umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independant studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it's the perfect combination."

Following the news that Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp's Halo project is dead in the water, this maybe Microsoft's best chance to thrust their Halo into movie theatres. IESB is reporting that CAA, who reps both Beattie and Spielberg, are heavily pushing the negotiations; and considering the fact that Spielberg shares a good relationship with Microsoft - he even appeared as part of Microsoft's E3 press conference this year - this may not be a bad shout.

We'll chalk this down as a rumour for now until we hear something a little more official, but if this plays out, it could be interesting. Very interesting indeed. It may just turn a few more heads.
Source.

Very interesting.

Hells yeah, in twenty years people will be watching the Halo movie instead of E.T, and kids will cherish it as one of their favorite childhood moments

Oh stop whining. If you want to whine about it start a thread, create a forum or website about halo sucking, I don't care, just don't do what you did in the last thread. Give the members who like Halo a chance to say what they think.

And now that theres an awesome script writer and and an awesome producer, A Halo movie would rock.

I don't see how it could become less than a mediocore action film with some cool special effects

Re: Spielberg In Talks To Pick Up Halo Movie?

At the very least, now that we have an avid gamer and greatly successful director for the film, it will be at the least a Die Hard quality action fest, I'm expecting more along the lines of 'Full Metal Jacket' mixed with '300' and 'Dune' I expect alot of this movie, and also the GoW movie (THough I never liked the game the movie would sound bitchin)

But we should all remember the rule of: games don't make good movies. And vice versa.

That`s because these movies are going to be fairly successful despite the poor quality - all thanks to games having established a fanbase/general fame.
... and vice versa.
It`s all about money. But this might change if a true gaming nerd is running the show.

Not necessarily. Goldeneye was absolutely amazing for its time. Hell, I still consider it one of the best games ever. The Godfather game was pretty good as well.

Basically, a game based off a movie can be good as long as it isn't shovelware. On the flipside, a movie based off a game can be good as long as Uwe Boll stays the **** away from it.

Anyway, Spielberg is an amazing director and an amazing producer. I'm confident that the Halo movie would be in excellent hands if Spielberg takes it over.

They were games based on movies and not movies based on games.

I'm surprised by this.

Again, I think Silent Hill was pretty good.

I would love to see Heather in future SH movies. She's my fave SH character.

Yes I did say vice versa. And Rheckameohs, you got me on that one. And The King Kong game was pretty good.

And TRA Rotid, you are right. It will make a lot of money. But it probably won't be any good. Why won't the let Halo just freakin' die. It is almost as bad as Mario, but mario is still fun.
