Today is September 17th

On September 17th, 1944 Allied paratroopers landed in Netherlands as the first half of the Market Garden Operation. They gave their lives for us, for freedom. They did not give up, even though, they were highly outnumbered. Many of the brave soldiers died, fighting for us. But still, they did not give up!

I want all of you, to remember that day.

There were 15,130–17,200 Allied casualties and 7,500–10,000 German casualties.

May they rest in peace.

Freedom doesn't exist... Its just pixels and numbers, only Capitalism remains.

I hope they don't know what they died for (Currently).

I really dislike people like you.

Pixels and numbers? Yeah, last time I checked, the Deceleration had pixels and numbers on it, I'll be sure to check that out next time I'm in DC. Freedom isn't free, but the marines will pay most of the rent.

It was a reference to Fable TLC.

Freedom isn't free and it never will be, it's just we have less freedom than we used to... Why? Because people are dying "For it" at this moment for a reason we don't know and due to a fake start. During times of war, freedom gets cut down a bit, ass capitalism on top of it and you finances go down, we jsut need to face we are a normal country and don't have an awesome amount of freedom, especially in todays society, our forefathers and our long dead soldiers are crying in purgatory.

Actually, it was really the USSR who won that war in Europe.

According to Russian combat philosophy, if you throw several million illiterate conscripts wielding Mosin-Nagant rifles at your enemy then, theoretically, in 5 to 7 years you should win.

I highly disagree with your statement. The Russians did what they did best, waste men and supplies with a war of attrition. The Nazi's had Russian supply lines in a stranglehold and without US support prior to and during the war then the full might of Nazi Germany would have been hard to handle. And without American and British assaults in France, Belgium, and Norway it might have ended in a stalemate. Britain was on the brink of destruction and I give a lot of credit to their tenacity in the face of what looked like defeat. While I don't doubt that the USSR didn't play a key role in fighting off the Germans, it would have been next to impossible without help from the West.

Freedom:
The condition of being free; the power to act or speak or think without externally imposed restraints.

Hah!

Restraints, there will ALWAYS be restraints, even if there are no restraints, people will make restraints just so they can have restraints, When we get what we want, we dont want it in the end, Humans well never be happy with what they have they will come up with a reason to change or destroy it.

If we got freedom, Even the freedom fighters will make up some bull**** rule.

well, actually, over the last century there has been much much more freedom granted than before.

Women for instance, have much more "Freedom" given to them: Power to vote, join the military, etc...

same for Black people, you remember when they were treated like the scum of the world after they gained their freedom? Well that's changed as well, they have been given all the rights that they deserve as American Citizens.

If anything we (as a civilization, not particular race) have gained MORE freedom than before. I mean yea there are a few new laws: Curfew laws and all that BS.

But as the world progresses, new laws and balance needs to be set into place to keep the country safe and balanced for all of us.

They made the greatest push on the Nazis, they WERE historicaly the BIGGEST factor to the Allies winning so quickly in europe. Given a bit longer and they would have beaten Germany with Britain, America came in at the last second and played the hero.

The lesson for today?
USSR won the was in Europe.
America won the war quicker in the orient, but at the cost of THE biggest war atrocity ever commited.

I'm going to refrain from commenting on anything else on this thread and just say yes, I'll remember those who were lost in the... call it liberation of the Netherlands, and, while I'm at it, all the others lost in that war.

And all those who sacrificed their labor, their time, their dedication, their bodies, the many who, one way or another, gave of themselves to fight a great evil.

And I sound vaguely stupid, but still I'll remember.

I don't care to get in a political argument, so sorry, but I'll be ignoring everything else in this thread.
