Why Microsoft, Why?

So basically, my Xbox is getting that overheat problem again. Now, it isn't because of where it is because it is laying horizontal on cold as freakin' ice concrete in the open. But it doesn't help. Now this is the second year in a row this is doing this and they charge A HUNDRED FREAKIN' DOLLARS FOR A REPAIR! Honestly, every single damn day I'm getting closer and closer to just buying a PS3 and smashing this piece of ****. Seriously. Why should I have to pay about 160 bucks a year to maintain a 360 and Xbox Live? Seriously Microsoft?

But in the meantime, any suggestions are helpful. Both the Xbox and power brick are laying on cold concrete and I've even tried my old cooling fan. No luck.

And again, ****. You. Microsoft.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

I tried a nifty little trick of filling some bags with ice and setting them behind the intake fan. It worked for a while. :O

Sony charges $150 for repairs plus you have to pay for shipping (which adds up to $180), and you'd have to spend $300 if you want the much more reliable Slim model. You'd save yourself $100 by just getting a reliable Arcade model and using your current HDD.

Are you sure it's an overheating error and not the power brick error? Try moving the power brick to a different location, because the power brick error displays the exact same way as the RROD. Also, make sure the vents are rid of dust on both your 360 & the power brick. It's also possible your 360's fan is messed up preventing it from cooling things off.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

The power brick is also on the floor. I might just bring my Xbox over to his house and try his power brick out.

And on another note, it only overheats when I play a game. I can just stay on the dashboard as long as I want. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

Ive had the RROD once and been my only issue with my launch console and lasted me a long time now. Had it standing up for years and now its been lying down for a year and been fine. Think some people are just unlucky and get one of the very bad batches. I mean if i remember correctly Steve has had 3-4 consoles die on him including his Elite.

Could still be a fan issue, browsing the dashboard wouldn't take much power. Can you hear the fan running fine when playing or while on the dashboard? Also is your model no longer under warranty? If all else fails, I'd suggest getting a brand new Arcade model rather than paying for repairs (better to have a newly revised one than one that broke down before).

:ninja:

- Can't install an OS on the Slim model (which is the most reliable of them all).

- Sony is planning to charge for PSN eventually (even when XBLM has twice as much content).

- New Xbox 360 models have HDMI.

But, I do agree. The PS3 is a good console for $300, I still enjoy mine.

So? Fancy features doesn't make up for the lack of games. And that it what the PS3 fails to be; a gaming console. All of the stuff you listed one could as easily do on their PC. I can hook up my PC to my HDTV and watch Youtube on it as well.

Oh yeah; the 360 has HDMI as well.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

^ The PS3 has plenty of games.

Most of them are "inferior" to their 360 counterpart. KillZone, for example, was gonna be the "Halo killer".

It was quite laughable.

But yeah, it has gotten more and more games now, that is true. Though I still claim that it has too many "fancy features" and too little "gaming console" in it.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

I'm just going to mention that my PS3 has never had any problems in the last 4 years since I originally bought it.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

Try replacing the power brick with a brand new one, my cousin avoided sending his in by doing this. And no it doesnt make any sense to pay microsoft to fix something they broke.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

Last comment is just win.

Anyways, its strange how people seem to be having problems with the Xbox, its pretty much a gamble to get a decent one or a ****ty one.
My halo 3 Edition has only gotten overheated once, and that was in a house with the heat on 90. (My family are cold blooded or something O.o ) and ive had that one for years.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

What you don't hear about is that PS3's overheat quickly as well. Mine got the YLOD and it's a $140 USD repair I believe.

... Please don't tell me you had the damn thing placed in a small location (like in an entertainment set/stand). Doing that will fry it up like a grill, it will also be as loud as a vacuum.

Same goes for the 360. Unless you bought it used so you got your hands on one of the broken first gen consoles, they don't go belly-up unless you somehow mistreat them.

Re: Why Microsoft, Why?

When my first Xbox 360 got overheat (and then the infamous Red Ring of Death) I have applied a water-cooling system to it, however the Elite version didn't ever give me overheat problems so far.
