DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

So yeah I set myself up as quite the music connoisseur, so I figured I'd increase my worth on this website by capitalizing on what I'm good at. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace, where I post all the good stuff I find in my pillage around the internet.

First off, rules.

  • No Mediafire/Megaupload/Rapidshare links to albums. I won't be your messenger to piracy however much I endorse it to a certain degree, but if you like something someone posts, download it by your own merit and please consider buying if you like it.
  • No being a dickhead. This means no "omg that sucks" comments or "omg this band are WAY better". This is a thread for recommendations, not being forceful with your opinion and claiming it as fact. Be gracious, you've been warned. I'll report any posts that infringe upon this rule.
  • No being horrible to people who like something you don't. Music is subjective, guys.
Now, this thread is about recommendations and general music discussion. If you disagree with someone, justify it with points that don't make you look like a fool.

If you're not into something I post, don't just say it sucks - at best, just ignore it. I'll post more stuff, just be patient.

Anyone else is also welcome to recommend stuff, too.

You may also ask here for music recommendations, say you want something similar to... errr, Altar of Plagues. I'd tell you bands similar for you to check out, and anyone else is also welcome to jump in.

Music this, music that - well, yes, it's why I'm alive.

Let the recommendations begin.

(Also mods please, please please don't lock this - this is my only shot at me being remotely interested in this forum. ;~; )

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. I'm your first customer.

Any good Tech Death here, DS? Stuff like Necrophagist. I just started listening to Decapitated, Ordeal, Demigod, Psycroptic, and the Faceless.
A new album just came out, namely Fleshwrought - Dementia/Dyslexia that is apparently some really great tech-death.

Similar to what Trawqdor asked, also you know any drum and bass bands? +Rep as much as I can.
'Fraid not. I'll get back to you, I'll look something up.

Again, I'll get back to you. Probably via visitor message.

Cheers for the interest guys.

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

Gotta show my love for this topic, I need music with great lyrics.

My favorites include modest mouse, smashing pumpkins, coheed and cambria, and some classics like rush and the pixies... What do you recommend?

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

In the interests of being different, I'm only going to ask for Jazz.

Got any jazz?

I've got this one DS. There were a bunch of Aussie bands in the late 70s and 80s that weren't too successful overseas, but were hella successful here. Australian Crawl, Hunters and Collectors, Midnight Oil, COLD CHISEL (this is the shiz) and Skyhooks.

Silverchair is another good one. They sort of grew out of the aftermath of grunge (their first album is like Diet Nirvana), and have moved into more pop/rock sort of stuff.

You might already know of a few of those bands, but I like to think I'm introducing you to a whole new world.

EDIT: Wait, you're not Australian yourself, are you? Coz I'd feel really silly if you were.

Menomena maybe? Not sure, not overly well versed on stuff like that, but methinks you'll enjoy some indie rock if you enjoy Modest Mouse. Arcade Fire, too.

Another one I'll have to look up.

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

Cheers. Keep in mind I'm not really into fusion or latin. More of a trad jazz, swing, big band, bebop, and funk kind of guy.

EDIT: I thought of a good tool you could use for this. It's basically youtube for music:

Grooveshark

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

Holy **** on a stick this thread is awesome.

DS, I'm interested in some New Wave and Punk, akin to The Clash, Sixousse (sp.?) and the Banshees, The Jam, Purple Hearts, that sort of stuff. Help me out here please.

Link me to some of your favorite songs by said artists so I can get a feel for their sound.

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

Ok, sorry to be a ***** like this, but I'm typing on my phone so I can't link tunes :(

Here are some songs though, I don't blame you if you can't be arsed to look them up:

The Clash - I fought the Law, Death or Glory

The Jam - Carnaby Street

Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK

'Old' punk, none of this new pop-punk please.

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

Try Dead Kennedys, Mission of Burma, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Screaming Females' first album, and the Cramps I guess. Bit of all punk there.

thanks for those, i feel like i have a purpose again. ^_^

EDIT: i tried out those bands arse, they were alright. I liked Silverchair the best.
do you have any more? someone who sounds more like the bands i posted?
i'm looking more for bands of similar sound, whether or not they're form australia. though i can't really think of a band outside of aus that produces the same sound as those guys i mentioned.

Re: DarkenedSoul's Musical Palace

How about the Screaming Jets? The Living End are **** hot aswell.

Out of curiosity, what songs did you listen to by those bands? I love them, and I want everyone else to love them too.

Also, cheers for the Rep, btw.

I recommend 'Violent Femmes' and 'Nitzer Ebb'. They are bands I associate with 'New Wave'. Not as hard as 'The Sex Pistols', but good in my opinion.
