Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

Oh grow up little man, it's not like this happens every day. Take the stick out of your arse and loosen up, a one off little set of parody threads is nothing to cry over.

It's a few threads, it's hardly "out of controaallll DDDD:" is it?

If you're going to respond to this thread with a "don't let it bother you", "just don't click", or an "ignore it", don't bother posting.

Oh the bloody irony.

I never said it was out of control, I said I can predict that it would become out of control. Besides, if it is bothering numerous forum members then someone should be done about it, or at least taken into consideration.

It's the same as what Tyloric was talking about, if someone makes a post that offends a lot of people or people have a problem with it, action will be taken. Same theory applies on a larger scale with these threads.

It is categorically spam, you cant deny that and most of the forum members are mature enough to want a clean forum to view serious topics with minimal eyesores like what is going on now. It's fine on a small scale obviously, there isn't a spam forum so can't really do anything about that. I'd just like to see the ratio of spam to normal topic being something like 1 spam to every 15 serious or something.

Anyway I doubt much action will be taken, and the provision of a 3rd Mod wont happen because this is a pretty one off thing and there isn't a real need for one really.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

What would you class as a serious thread? We're all going to have different opinions on that. Should we take a vote? No. Let's just have a forum where anyone can say whatever they want. In case you didn't notice, we have over 10 other forums for "serious" threads.

To be fair, that post wasn't even aimed at you. It was aimed at OP. He did say it was out of control.

Unfortunately for you, there is absolutely nothing in these threads that would ever cause offense. Ever. He is only letting it bother him because he's so uptight about his unreal standards.

Forums are allowed to have a bit of fun, and he is entitled to just leave it alone. How long do you think these threads will last, anyway? Probably a day or something before it becomes not funny. Is that too long to ask for non-inflammatory threads to exist? That harm nobody?

Oh god...

We're a FORUM ABOUT A GAME SERIES FOR F*CK'S SAKE. WE ARE NOT A BUSINESS. LIGHTEN UP.

Also, most of the threads I see here are indeed about games, not serious topics. brb whining about lack of serious threads D:.

Categorically, it's just having a bit of fun that's harming no one apart from butthurt people with unreal standards on how a forum should be. This thread is catagorically whining.

Oh, and this is a pretty small scale really. 10 threads maximum or so. All in one place. It's not as if they're everwhere, and they aren't going to last long.

The mod team here do a fantastic job, staff members even posted in those threads for goodness sake, what good is another mod going to do anyway if the staff members already know about these threads?

By the way I just noticed the +rep has a fault, the bottom of the sign moves but the top does not. Growing wooden stick from beyond the dimension of darkness? I hope so.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

The +rep actually isn't broken. If you look closer, you'll see the top of it is just disappearing out of the frame.

I know they knew about the threads, but they probably didn't know it'd be on such a large scale or that it'll be controversial.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

You're trying to inflate it into way more than it actually is. How many threads was it,exactly? Like six or something? Seven? What is it about this that's worse than people constantly saying "fail" when they don't like something? Or photoshopped images of cats?

Saying "fail" or posting photoshopped images of cats can't be controlled or filtered, but the mass production of threads like this can be discouraged.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

And we can't discourage people from saying "fail" or postic cat pictures? That makes no sense at all.

I have an idea. It's just an idea. Maybe something to consider. Let me know if I'm out of line with this... maybe, maybe, we should put this discussion on hold until staff can weigh in... just maybe.

After reading two pages and being mind boggled t the lack of Mod posting on this particular thread, I read this and thought "Damn he beat me to it." also: Lighten up guys, like DS said; it's just a one time deal so far.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

I would totally understand if this happened like every week, but just once is ridiculous.

I know this is an awful example, but it isn't the holocaust if you only kill one jew.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

Well, the problem is that they higher-ups are somewhat harder to reach these days. They're not just as active as they once were.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

It's just making it harder to find more interesting threads when all you see is "Who is ___" when you scroll down.

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

Just think people need to show some maturity and common sense. It was amusing for the first 2 threads but then everyone jumped on the bandwagon like a leech. It was a passing 5min fad that is now over and nothing to start questioning the running of the forums about or the dedication of any staff members. How about people just stop making them and they are all closed and we resume business as usual? Next time something like this happens how about members show some maturity and common sense and not overuse something within a day?

1. I agree that it was only amusing the first few times, hence why I only made one thread and I spoke out against the ones after it.
2. Amusing thing is, this was made after the fad had died anyway unless I'm mistaken. Some people need to stop jumping on bandwagons, and some people need to stop whining when it happens. Especially when they love to blame me. Particularly Tyloric, cuz im a torll sapmmer D:

A simple fad is nothing, it lasted less than a day and it doesn't mean there's something wrong with how the forum is run. I'm in agreement with Dark Draken.

Now to the topic at hand. People seem to suddenly think that it is okay to flood the forums with senseless, stupid, unneeded threads and posts just because there is no more official spam section. I find this unacceptable; be it true or not.

Personally, I think it makes the forums as a whole look bad and immature, as it also shows a lack or organization and a bad community. I'm not going to name names, that would just make me a prick, but there are key members responsible for this as well.

If I was visiting the forums for the first time and I saw them in this state, I wouldn't even bother joining.

So I suggest:
a) The spam section be reintroduced to the community.
b) Stronger enforcement/a revision of the rules.
c) Perhaps even the promotion of new mods to help enforce these rules.

Discuss.
agree 100%

Re: Spam is out of control; solutions needed.

a. arseface is right
b. drakan is always right
c. i think i made a suggestion against necroposting and we all agreed that we liked how relaxed the admining here is.

is that contradiction i smell?
i think so.
