Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like??

Yeh lets just say i have always been a big fan of punk, as a 10 year old i listened to Blink-182, Green Day (old song are better than new) and Sum 41... I grew out of the pop-punk genre when i picked up my first Sex Pistolks album, the Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Although overall this was a shocking album it had 2 of my favourite songs Friggin' in the Riggin' and Anarchy in the UK..... For along time i listened to classics (like: The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned, The Jam and The Buzzcocks.) After this hardcore punk really came into my life with bands like Black Flag, Chaos UK, Bad Brains, Born Against, Cro-Mag and towards the end i listened to alot of Civ and Biohazard.. My favourite hard core band though would have to be Refused... I confess i did listen to a bit of Straight Edge hardcore but honestly the genre is not as good as it sounded back then. Straight Edge today is completely different to back then.. Basically nowerdays Straight Edge is all about stoppin racism, violence, drugs, underage/ before marrige sex etc. through singing. But back then Straight Edge did premote alot of violence.. A gang formed called FSU, randomyl beating people, they were basically to fight skin heads, but in the end they were harming the communty as much as the skinheads. Eventually FSU crumbled though luckily, and today i imagine doesn't follow it's legacy at all doing illegal crimes and drug dealing. And well hardcore punk has always had a problem you are either Anarchists, extreme left wing, extreme right wing, white supremacy skinheads or Straight Edge. Whilst most other genres often are all anarchists. Now today though i have been listening to a wider genre of all music but out of the punks i still isten to the classic but i love also folk punk or celtic punk (like The Real McKenzies or Dropkick Murphys.) I also recomend you check this band out a local Melbourne band called Bastard Squad, a friend of mine often is seen with them

What genre do you listen to, and please don't blabber too much about Green Day or blink 182 the majority on the forum already know quite a bit about them. Has it changed your life.

BTW if you want to know why i posted this topic first i was watching some episode of something called Rage Against Society, about FSU. I was interested because i didn't know any of this happened then in Boston.

LONG LIVE ANARCHY!

Listen up because i love saying this to punks lol, Your not punk if you class yourself as punk because that is conforming to somthing, which is the exact oposite of what punk is ment to stand for, soooo your not nor will you ever be a punk after this thread.

P.S. I was too lazy to read the post, but i saw punk and this had to be said,

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

I was a big fan of punk in the late 80's. We called it "alternative" mostly though. My favorite bands at the time were:
'The Sex Pistols'
'Nitzer Ebb'
'Violent Femmes'
I spent alot of time in clubs where I heard alot of stuff that I didn't know the band's names but I enjoyed the music. These were clubs where acid and cocaine were what kept us going when they stopped serving drinks at 2am but stayed open til dawn.
Good times.
Now I listen to Willie Nelson, Marty Robbins, and Hank Williams Sr.

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

I dont know ANY of the sub-genres anymore so I don't classify them, but judging by punkishness I would have to say my favs are:
Marilyn Manson
Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
Now for Core:
Demon Hunter
AFI
30 Seconds to Mars
Underoath

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

AFI... :sick:And I thought all that was classified as alternative too... Oh well. I'm usually wrong. As for me, I used to listen to punk/alternative music, but I prefer metal. SOAD, Pantera, Iron Maiden, stuff like that. And again... AFI?
Oh, and sorry for no spaces after periods. It is supposed to hit return, but I have to use an anonymizer to get to this site and whenever I uncheck "disable coding" it won't load the page.

Sadly, punk just isn't punk anymore. These new bands aint got nothing on the oldies.

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

Blink 182, Green Day and Sum41 eh? Al part of my childhood and still part of my life today. Thing is there are SO many awesome bands out there... The Urge, Electrasy, JOHN RZEZNIK ftw!

Hey, don't forget Crazy Town! Their legend ;)

But I'm more into reaaaal rock these days. I mean rock rock, not punk or pop/rock.

Oh, anyone heard of ZZ Top? Those guys are crazy xD love them... Gun Love is my fav song from them :P

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

ZZ Top are awesome. You gotta respect guys with such mighty beards, and beaaaauuutiful cars.

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

Its funny because I like Metal, Casual Rock, Blues, Jazz and Classical.. Like it differs from Hardcore Metal (not too Hardcore) then to like Beethoven, Yes I like Beethoven.

My Favourite Symphany from Beethoven is Moonlight Sonata, You guys heard of that one?

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

Blink 182 + Sum 41 are fantastic. A punk band that will remain in my top four will always be The Pistols.

Most of these are kinda metal and a few you could classify emo (which kinda is a bit punky)

Yes they did 'Blister..'. Did you know the song is about
masturbation

Some of Nitzer Ebb's well known songs are 'Join In the Chant' , 'Violent Playground' , and 'Warsaw Ghetto'. They really are great, still. After I read this thread this morning I went out into my garage and found my old cassettes(plastic cartridges with two reels of magnetic tape for you youngsters). I found NE and really enjoyed listening to it full blast, glad my gf is in the hospital, lol.

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

Interesting thread. Music in all forms appeals to me- everything from Turisas, Korpiklaani to Deadmau5, The Prodigy, Joe Satriani, A Day to Remember, Paradise Lost. Heart will always lie with metal in all its various genres though. That said, the only thing that never really took a direct root with me was punk for some reason, I guess I found it ironic that it had roots with not conforming to social standards but yet every punk conformed to their own genre and standards instead of being unique. From a musical standpoint I did like the Ramones and the Dead Kennedys, fairly sure they qualify as punk of some description, not quite the anarchistic British punk that Sex Pistols are renowned for though.

"you could classify emo (which kinda is a bit punky)"
Emo is directly derived from punk rock if I am not mistaken.

lol about blitzered in the sun, i have another song which you would never guess what it is about Kill Rock 'n' Roll by SOAD is infact about running over a bunny.

so is Nitzer Ebb a metal band? I so tht might be why i aint so much into this modern music, alot of it is starting to become as similar as techno in my opinion.. Hay has anyone listened to the Bastard Squad, i reckon they're awsome

:w00t: smily faces fits the genre... im sorry emos out ther but alot of your music i can't stand the singing.. I think it is the style of the singing, not saying they're the only genre that i have noticed they sing this style often , but it is kinda a high pitched voice of a teen. If u dnt understand pretty much singing of the recent Good Charlotte, Simple Plan or the crappy Aussie band Kid Courageous (WARNING: you will die).... And with Good Charlottes new album Good Morning Revival or something like that all htese crappy music magazines (which are COMPLETELY mainstream. next issue Paris' cloathes are fake :O.. Britney's 's pregnancy crysis :O.. The goss with Kelly Clarkson now a lebian :O) they called Good Charlotte Kings of punk. My reply is YUCK! Calling them kings of punk, maybe pop-punk.. But thye don't follow any political views (including anarchy) which is often the lyrics of many punk bands, instead they sing about girls, boys and money. I could blabber on about how much i hat pop-punk look i dnt mind green day, NOFX and Blink 102. But bands like Good Charlotte blabber around saying they're punks when they have no clue about wth happened in the 70's couldn't name a Dead kennedys song and then then for some they don't even know what anarchy means. I mean punks are meant to leave a cheap life-style. Saying no to sponsors.. Whilst apparently at the Big Day Out they were over advertising Honda.. I mean stay in your pop punk corner, but don't call yourself 'The Kings of Punk.' Infact the only band that deserve to have a running in this title are original punk bands.
Yeh i have a friend that is a joogillo or sumthin like tht, and he listens to insane clown posse, and he has the same problem apparently Eminem has been the enemy for the Joogillo scene and now he is calling himself a joogillo. All thse bands are doing is trying to ear the extra dosh.

Re: Anyone else fans of punk and all its sub-genres (Hardcore) what band do you like?

I may be young but I like metal, such as:

Kiss
Twisted Sister
AC-DC
Ozzy Ozborne

They rocked. The best was kiss for sure.
